I was wondering if any other moms of young children have any issues with your children playing in their poop. It really grosses me out and i can't get him to stop any time he dirties his diaper and i don't catch it in time he has it smeared all over him and any thing else he decides to rub it on!

What can I do next?

My mother-in-law's only story just about that she passed was when she awoke hearing happy sounds of her little darling in his crib and he had smeared poop everywhere.... Father like son.. Thank goodness I had to be at a meeting early one morning and my husband woke to it... He loves to take his diaper off and I think it was just curiousity (he was able one year... I have heard while telling the story of little ones that continue and one mom suggested to just keep a onesie on him or even onesie and pants... He does still like to try and reach down there while getting a diaper change.

My son will be 3 next month and I have been having this trouble for about 6 months now. I guess ever since I began trying to potty train him. I was afraid to punish him for this because I did not want to give him mixed signals about going potty. Sometimes he would just go on the floor in the corner. I spoke to the doctor about it and she said that it is not good to punish him concerning the poop itself but to punish him for making a mess. Have him help you clean it up. I have not had to do this since it has not happened in the last couple of weeks but I will take her advice. She is a great doctor.

My son is nine now and has autism and the past couple of bms, he's messed in it and smeared it on the walls. I really let into him. I'm on him so fast now but it's something I like to get some advice on to.

N., I had to laugh when I read your question as it brought to memories my mother told of one of my cousins. Left alone in his crib, he had a bowel movement and proceed to smear it all over himself, the wall and the crib. It was so bad, in fact, that he was eating some of it. Although my own children never did it, it is a perfectly natural thing. Children love texture and of course everything goes into their mouths. You might try giving your son textured blankets or toys that will keep him occupied even after a bowel movement. Infinite Blessings!

I am in just such a situation myself and would love to know if anyone else has dealt with this and survived too. My little guy is almost 4. He smears it over walls during his nap or on the tv when I'm not looking. I'm so glad you asked the question.

LOl...I am not trying to laugh at your situation but you need to take him tho the MD, he is lacking iron..as weird as that seems it is a sign of lack of vitamins. As humans we sometimes do things that mean we are lacking vitamins or need a supplement. I am a medical student and I actually learned that a few weeks ago.

They just do that at about that age. My mom laughs that it is the orginal Play-Doh, but it is very frustrating.

My son (now 5) would remove his diaper entirely to play. With him, we just put duct tape over the diaper flaps so he couldn't remove it. My daughter is 18 months and just started this behavior. She leaves the diaper on and pulls poop out of the sides, so the duct tape solution wasn't an option. If she's going to be napping, I put her in footie pajamas so she can't get at the diaper.

Depending on the behavior of yours, you could try one of those. Of course, if he pulls poop out of the sides and understands zippers, you'll have to be more creative.

Good luck with it! It is a frustrating stage, but they do get past it. :)
