I would like to know what is the best way of keeping your house fresh all the time (especially after frying fish). Besides using the stuff you buy in the store. Maybe somebody have some home remedies.

What can I do next?

Hello,
I have heard that if you wipe certain items with bleach that it will clear out all un-wanted odors, including cooking odors, smoke, etc. I hope this helps!

Something that sounds kinda odd but works is those blocks that you put in your toilet to make it smell good, if you hide some of those under the couch or table they do make your house smell and get rid of odors. Also something I do, which I have found out is an aquired smell is Pine-Sol. You can get one of those potpouri pots for liquid and put about 3 parts water to 1 part pine-sol and hide it in a corner on the counter and it will make you house smell clean without all the work. Hope this helps!!

Having been stationed in Guam, I learned a few things. One is to use Lysol Brand aerosol in the large can and spray it into your a/c vent intake while it is on. It quickly spreads the scent to the entire house. I use half a can at a time, and it has the added benefit of killing mold in the air ducts. I use the expensive allergen air filters, so I open the vent and lay the filter down instead of spraying through the filter. But it sure works fast at freshening the house!

I like to put orange and/or lemon peels, cloves, vanilla, cinnamin and a little water in a pot on the stove and let it simmer for a while.

Grinding limes in the garbage disposal helps stinky kitchen smells.

good old fashion bleach does good for me and i dunno if uve tried it but oust actually does pretty good too. im lucky enough to be able to get the industry type fresheners they use in businesses. Also try burning cented candles or inscents their pretty strong and may work.

Hi A., I know what you mean...the store bought sprays only seem to "mask" the odor. I recently purchased a "tart warmer" from a local candle shop in North Augusta. I also purchased a few very clean smelling tarts (around $.50-$.99 each) and have been using one called Eucalyptus and Mint since that time. I light the tea light in the tart warmer and it melts the tart. I've been using the same tart for about a month now and I use it every day. It makes my house smell so fresh and clean without having a heavy scent. We boiled shrimp and baked salmon the other night if you can imagine the smells that left. I lit the tart warmer and it cleared it all up quickly. This isn't a home remedy, but it is a nice alternative to sprays. Good luck. If you want anymore info (where I got the products), just email me.

A wedge of lemon in the garbage disposal or a lemon scented candle work well :)

I prop open all the windows and turn on all the fans before I cook something that is "smelly". Afterwards, I use Lysol and spray around the house once while the windows are still open and the fans are still on. It seems to help keep the air fresh and circulating.
