What a surprise it was to find out that our premiums are going to more than double once we add our son to our policy. I have called around to get a couple of quotes, but I'm wondering if any of you other Mom's have a specific auto carrier that you could recommend. There are so many out there! We're already receiving the good student discount and the discount for having completed a driver's ed program and it's still going to cost us over $2000 every six months. I would appreciate your help.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Okay ladies, here's the verdict...Farmer's Insurance came in with the lowest premium. I would highly recommend them, and more specifically, the Rex Cole Agency in Highland Village. Their number is ###-###-#### and would be worth calling to compare your current policy with what they offer. While I was at it, I changed our homeowner's insurance to them as well which gave us a discount for having more than one policy with them. This is nothing new as most providers offer this anyway, but they went out of their way to find as many discounts as they could for us. They have saved me almost $3K a year! Thanks for your responses to my pleas!

Farm Bureau is the best that we found. At first I thought that you had to own a farm! You don't. I have my home and auto and our rates are always below all others out there. My agent is in Lewisville. Texas Farm Bureau
At least call them.

I work for an independent insurance agent. We can quote several companies to get the best rate. I'd suggest keep shopping around, you never know what you might find. Look for someone who can offer you many quotes at once. And if at all possible, have your son drive a vehicle that doesn't require full coverage.

We have 4 drivers on our policy (1 boy age 18, 1 boy age 16, and my husband/myself). We only have full coverage on our 2 vehicles and liability/hail coverage for the 2 vehicles that the boys drive. Our insurance is with Geico and we pay around 2900.00 for the entire YEAR! It is probably because we don't have full coverage for the boys but it is still way cheaper than what other quotes we got from our previous insurance company. We have had to make one claim with them since getting it and they were awesome to work with. Good luck..... Some people may disagree, but I had to switch to some other company or we were going to not be able to afford for our 2 boys to even drive!

Please let me know if you find insurance cheaper because I too pay alot for my daughter who is now 18. My insurance agent told me that the rates won't go down until she reaches 21. We get the multi car, security alarm, defensive driving, driver's ed, good student and mortgage discounts. It still doesn't seem near enough. Good Luck!
