Hey Everyone! We just moved to the Fenton area about 4 months ago and I am needing to get my hair cut and styled. I have been having a friend in Desloge cut my hair for the past 10 yrs. and am a bit nervous about having someone different cut my hair. She charges only $10 a cut, and I know prices are going to be higher up here, but I'd still like something affordable. And then I believe I've read on here about leaving tips? Not sure I remember what's proper. I don't even know where to start calling. I would like someone knowledgeable and not afraid to make suggestions, b/c I think I want a change, but am not real sure what I want yet. Any help you could offer would be great. I know there's a JC Penneys that just opened and I think they have a salon, but other than that, I'm not sure where to start.
Thanks for any suggestions.
I have read so many posts and responses on here and think it's great that so many moms are willing to share their insight and advice in so many areas!
God Bless,
S.

So What Happened?

Thank you for the responses and suggestions of hair salons! I made my decision and went to De Ja Vu Salon & Boutique. Once I get in my head that I want my hair cut, I want it done right away! So I called this morning at 11:30 and they asked if I could be there at 12:00! This way I can't back out. I got about 4 inches cut off, I think. I loved the place! Everyone was so nice and helpful. My kids were with me and that wasn't a problem. My 2 yo DD was allowed to go back and watch me get my hair washed. Katie was the name of the stylist and she was great with helping me figure out what to do with my hair. As for fees - first time cuts are $10, after that it's $15. That was great!! So thanks for the help. I really appreciate it. I told them I got my referral on Mamasource! Hope you all have a wonderfully blessed day!

I know you are looking in teh Fenton area, but if you are intersted in traveling another 5 minutes from Fenton, I have a great friend that has a salon in High Ridge, MO. She is upbeat, and isn't afraid to give suggestion and tips. She does a great job and i wouldn't go anywhere else. If you would like some info, let me know. I would be happy to give you her name and her salon phone number.

Thanks,

L.

Hi S.,

I am a grandma of 3 little girls with one more little girl due in Oct. I am very picky about my "coiff." I am 61 years old and my hair and nails seem to be my best assets at this point, ha. I like to look stylish and not like an old grandma. I found a young woman named, Shannon, at Great Clips in Dierberg's Plaza in Fenton near on Hwy. 141 @ Gravois. I had to find someone else when we moved also and I love the way she cuts my hair. It is fine and she knows what to do. I don't have her style as I prefer to do that myself. I believe the cut is $15. I also have her shampoo mine for an additional $4.00 as I usually have hairspray on it. I give her a $4.00 tip for the $19 charge which is above the usual 15% but I like to bless people who take good care of me. I hope you find someone you like. We girls have to keep ourselves looking pretty!!

S. in High Ridge

There's a nice little home-y place in "old town" Fenton - on Mound Street - called "American Hairitage". Just a few ladies work there, all very nice - owned by a lady named Marilyn. Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is friendly. And most of the women there have worked there for years, my Mom retired from there recently and I really like the new girl there too - Melody. As for tips, I usually give them 10 - 15%...but I don't know what's "proper".
Good Luck!

Hi S.. I was in the same boat as you last year being new to the area. I tried several local salons and wasn't happy with either the price or the stylist. A friend recommended De Ja Vu Salon on Old Gravois. Its back behind where the Old Navy and Best Buy are on 141. April is who cuts and colors my hair. She's been great so far. I can show her a picture or give her a general idea of what I want and she cuts it how I want it. They used to have $10 haircuts, but I think they were getting ready to raise it to $12 or $15 the last time I was in there. The number to the salon is ###-###-####.

I am also from the Park Hills/Desloge area and moved to Arnold a several years ago. The girl I go to is also from down there and drives up here to a place called Magnolias on Imperial Main steet in the new complex. I see Heather Propst, but there are several girls that I work with that see others there too. I know that Heather charges me around $14 for a hair cut and I can just walk in and say cut it short and it looks good. I have been going to her for about 4 years. The number at Magnolia's is ###-###-#### and it is on Imperial Main street.
