Hi Moms,
I have a daughter who will be 3 years old in October and am looking to put her in an accredited pre-school. I've looked at the Children's Academy of SA and also Childtime...Does anyone have any great advise? I'm hesitant as this will be her first time, but she is comfortable being away from me. I plan on putting her in full time. Thanks in advance for your help!

What can I do next?

My son went to St. Thomas Espiscopal. He absolutely loved it. He is very prepared for kindergarten. He now goes to Roan Forest. I'm going to send my daughter there next year.

I believe Harvest Fellowship Academy is accredited and it is right there at 1604/281. I have heard many good reports from that school. http://harvestschools.org/

Rainbow Station on Sonterra Blvd is accredited. My son is going for his second year and my daughter (now 6) went when she was a preschooler. I really like thier program and the kids love thier teachers.

First examine why you are sending her to pre-school. If it's for teaching purposes, to get her "ready" for kindergarten, or socialization, then mother's day out will do just fine,or at the least, part time preschool.

Just remember that at this age there is NOTHING you can't teach them. It's not as if they are learning physics in preschool. Why at the tender age of three do you want to pay for her to take a nap somewhere else, color, and learn her letters and counting all of which you can do at your house for FREE and bond with your child?

My daughter and I painted letters- I printed them on my computer and then she colored them. We made a "Chica Chica Boom Boom" poster after reading the book. I bought cookie cutters in the shape of letters and we had fun using them with playdough and making the playdough alligator eat the "wrong" letters. We read Beatrix Potter and did water colors of bunnies and planted carrots and watched them grow. We read ten apples up on top for counting and made an apple pie with them. My daughter still remembers the poster and the lessons we used when I later taught her to read and she is seven now.

I am certainly not cutting down preschool educators or saying their vast knowldege is worthless. Of course it has value and they have insights that non-educators will never have. I just believe that as a society we are pushing kids way too early. If you look at studies, none of them bare out that by the time they are in high school attending preschool fulll time has made a bit of difference or improved their chances for college. (the United States goes from the top 10 ranked in the world educated/knowledgable children up to 4th grade to mid 90's by the time they are in high school)

So don't worry about Kindergarten. Stay home and enjoy your daugther. You will never regret spending time with her.
