Hello Ladies. I've just discovered the most disturbing thing in my pregnancy (this is my 2nd ). Yes, Vaginal Varicose viens. My Dr. didn't say much other than they will get much worse (until delivery- 2 mos away), rest, and if the pain is too much vicadin will help....? SOOOO can any of you give me advice on what helped you through this rough patch?? Any advice is appreciated ;-)

I can relate! I got these too for my second pregnancy (I just delivered June 10). I was told there was nothing they could do for the pain except have the baby. Every once in a while I could take a Tylenol with Codeine. I had them from the 6 month, all the way until the end. The only thing that helped me was taking baths and that was temporary. I also had very bad siatic pain. It was really hard for me because the pelvic pressure due to the varicose veins made it hard for me to pick up my 19 month old, etc., and my husband had to do a lot of the work around the house for the last month because I was in so much pain. Sorry I could not offer any good news, but I can relate and sometimes that helps (knowing that you are not the only one out there). Good luck and I hope you have a happy and safe delivery.
Hi M.,
I had varicose vein problems too in my 2nd pregnancy ( not vaginal) but I believe that pelvic tilt excercises will help relieve the pressure. BTW they also help your stomach snap back after birth...even though it is your 2nd! Worked for me, I did them several time a day!!
Also, my varicose veins began to stop bulging and even seem to disappear in the last trimester!!! Why?? Because I began taking extra vitamin C pills!(3 x perday) Type in Vitamin C titration and pregnancy in the search engine and see what you come up with. However, I think it would have been better to have the C through high Vit C fruit (kiwi, strawberry etc) because C needs other minerals to go with it and therefore ends up sucking calcium out of your bones. It is better to eat fruit that already contains the exact mineral balance you need. I took extra vit C only in my 2nd pregnancy and also noticed I did not get any hypertension as I did my first pregnancy!! I hope this helps.
Sincerely,
C.
In pregnancy your options are limited so I would see a homeopath or a naturalpathic Doctor to help you. In my pregnancy I had all sorts of things that the homeopath and acupuncturist helped that the regular Doctor said I'd have to suffer with. There is no need to suffer ever? If you need a referral I'd be happy to help.
Hi M.!
First off...let me say I am SO sorry you are going through this. Secondly, I SO know what you are going through. We are due with #4 in August (don't know the sex!) and I've had these oh-so-lovely things since my 2nd pregnancy. I know this is our last pregnancy - and these are MOST definitely one of the main reasons!!
I do take warm baths, sometimes several times a day. It does provide relief for a bit. I also wear those extra heavy duty support hose if I know I am going to be on my feet all day. Mind you, I have 3 other children ages 5 and under...so that is pretty much par for the course!! But when I can, I wear them and it DOES help tremendously. If you can put them on first thing in the morning, before you really get out of bed, and wear them until you go to bed...you will notice a big difference.
Other than that, I try to take several 15-30 minute breaks during the day and just put my feet up. I am a non-stop type person, so this is VERY hard for me...but I also know that if I don't, by the time my husband gets home from work, I am practically confined to the couch because I hurt SO bad down there and my legs as well. I've also discovered that sex aggravates them VERY badly, so that is strictly a nighttime activity when I know I can lay down and not move afterwards! :)
These things have gotten me through the last 2 pregnancies...and so far through this one. And mine started this pregnancy at week 16!!! UGH!! I may take Tylenol from time to time...but never anything stronger. I just keep telling myself ALMOST there and this too shall pass. And when it does...we'll have another beautiful little miracle!!
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and your new baby! :)

I had them with my third but not my first or second. The only thing that helped me what a pregnancy brace. It is a band that goes around your wait under your belly and had a strap that goes across the top. It is about $30.00 and you can get it at Toys R Us or Babies R Us. It took 90% of the pain away. I do not recommend taking Vicodin while pregnant, especially when you can use a brace for the pain. It also took away my back pain and pinched nerves I was getting!
Yep, those bad boys suck! I had them with my daughter & didn't realize what they were for the longest time & my OB was so bad that she didn't even tell me when I asked her about them. Anyhoo...Get a body pillow to go between you legs when you sleep which will help eliminate some of the pressure. Also ice packs (or even a bag of frozen peas) is great to help with the swelling & pressure. Hopefully these will help you out some.
I understand your concerns....I had the same problem during my 2nd pregnancy also. I know how painful it feels and how it gets worse as the day progresses. I used to work as a nurse and had lots of discomfort being on my feet, pregnant, and had vulvar varicosities. I also used to work in the maternity ward so I had lots of opportunity seeking advice from different docs. One thing I can say for sure is not to take Vicodin. It is a drug that is not usually prescribed during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary (due to severe pain that is not within your control). I highly recommend wearing a vaginal support when you are upright (v-support for women) put it on prior to getting up off the bed in the morning. Use pressure on the area using thick maxi pads then the v-support over it. Lay down whenever you can to relive pressure, use an ice-pack when the pain is throbbing. Try as much as you can not to lift up your toddler as weight bearing makes things worse. When these measures are done, i found that the pain subsides quite drastically. Oh, and yes, all of it disappears after the delivery of your baby. Hope this helps. Hang in there, you'll forget all about it after your little bundle is here.
I know how you feel! Those are the worst! I had those with my last pregnancy and would cry and cry sometimes. I feel that the ruined my entire pregnancy. It was not comfortable to sit, it was not comfortable to walk........i always told my husband that they need a support group for this thing! It is not something you generally bring up in conversation! Just know there is an end to it! It will not be forever. But i know people told me that when i had them, and i wasn't buying the encouragement! Hahahahaha.
I did get a V2 belt for when i walked. Honestly, weird as it sounds i still have it and if you want its yours! It helped relieve pressure temporarily. Since it was polyester, i never wore for more then an hour.
I never did take pain meds, it was more of an ache type pain. The only releif i found for this was to lay down, put a pillow under my butt..
I tell you, my heart is feeling your pain! I never had them after delivery, praise the Lord!
