Hi, I was just looking for some sdvice on potty training my 21 mo. old daughter. She seems to be ready, she tells us the minute she wets nad dirties her diaper. I have the potty seat and the wipes for her, and for some reason we can sit on the potty for up to 15 minutes and the minute she gets off, she wets her diaper and tells me she did. I feel like I am missing something here. I have given her a potty book to read in the bathroom, etc... Any advice or little tricks would be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

2 years old is early, even for a girl. The best you can do is ask her to sit on the potty regularily and never force the issue. When she's ready, she'll start requesting to sit on the potty on her own. Most children aren't ready to use the potty exlusively until 3-4 years old, regardless of gender.

I have a 2 1/2 year old girl and just posted a similar question about 3 weeks ago... Overall- most moms told me not to use the pull ups (which I had been using since December). They said to go to underwear and just go for it (a naked weekend)... THEY WERE SO RIGHT! A couple of accidents the first week but we are now 100% in her new "tinks" (Tinkerbell underwear as she calls them). She loved picking out her new undies and was so proud. I just need to get committed and then she jumped on board.

Good luck :)

Hi A.
I have a 2 year old daughter and we have been working on this issue. From my friend's experience and my search, I found out that you have to put a strict schedule to sit on the seat. Every 20-30 minutes take her and go sit, sometimes you will not get anything and sometimes you will. Consistency is the secret. Since you stay at home, it will be easier for you to do it. I did that for one day, and I was able to let her go several times. It's just not easy since I work and with this holiday activities going on, I could not proceed. But for sure this is the first thing I will do in the new year :) Good luck.

I think 2 yrs. old is just the right age. My son who is now 6, was potty trained by 26 months. That is really fast, but completely possible. I went alittle messier route. I put him in big boy pants and heavy sweat pants when we were at home, after 3 days he did not like being wet and he learned really quick when he had to go.It took alot longer with the other part of potty trainning, that took until he was about 4.The best thing you can do is try for a couple of weeks, and if it still isnt working give it a rest for alittle, then try again. I hope it's as easy for you, as it was for me.

My pediatrician said girls at 2 and a half and boys at 3. However, I did potty train Kate earlier than that. I also went messy. It really worked. I think the pullups are great but to a kid they feel like a diaper. If Kate had a diaper on she used it. If she didn't, she went in the potty. Just keep the mind set that you will have to clean up pee every once in a while and then it is not so bad. Good luck.
