Seeking Advice on Moms of Twins Groups

I am a mom to 2.5 year old boy/girl twins. I have looked into joining a twins group. Originally I was disappointed that there didn't seem to be any "Parents of Twins" group since I had a husband who was just as eager to participate. In any case I am looking for anyone who might be part of a current group to offer some benefits of joining. Thank you.

I, too, am looking to join a twin group and am wondering if you have found out anything about this. My twins (a boy and a girl) will be arriving in Feb. I need help and direction especially since I will be a first-time Mom. Thanks for any suggestions.

Have you looked into Lake County Mother of Twins Club? We have 200 members, and have family events that Dads can be part of too. The monthly meetings are for Mom, with a support group, and wonderful speakers/topics relating to motherhood. We also have a summer family picnic, resales,a fall outing at a petting farm/pumkin patch, and a family holiday party. Look into it again at www.freewebs.com/lcmotc or the state organization is www.iomotc.org for other clubs in the area. As a mother of twins, I don't know how I would have gotten through (mine are 5 now) without the support of LCMOTC.

Hi M.,

I am part of a great moms group in Mchenry county called Mom-2-Mom. We have 2 moms with twins who belong to a twins club as well. Now that there kids are older though, they didn't have many outings & such for them, only the support of having twins. In our group we offer playgroups for all ages and have monthly kid's parties and planned activities. We have moms night out, scrapbooking, bunco, book club, couples night out and dad's night out. We also offer a babysitting co-op which has been great for moms to go to dr appt, shop or just have a quiet hour the themselves. I am not sure where you are located, but you could always see if there is a meetup close to you that offers twin stuff.

Good luck

I am also a mommy of 2 1/2 year old boy/girl twins and I used to be a member of the CCMOTC (Charter Chapter Mother of Twins Club) when I was pregnant and when they were babies. You can google CCMOTC and see what you come up with. It is a great supportive club but it was just too far away for me to conitinue. Good luck!!!! Stephanie

Hi M.,

I'm a member of Multiple Choice, a mothers of twins club that meets in the Buffalo Grove/Palatine/Lake Zurich/Arlington Heights area once a month (second Wednesday night of each month). We also have playdates during the month, a moms night out, and different activities during the year. We also have a Storks Club that meets just prior to the club meeting on those Wednesday nights. It gives moms who are expecting twins a chance to talk with moms who have had their twins and get advice about different things. During our monthly meetings, we have a time to socialize and then a speaker/program. We've had nutritionists, doctors/pediatricians/specialists, financial planners, and our Twin-Triplet talk where we all help one another with different issues (potty training, feeding, sleep schedules, etc.).
Please feel free to contact me directly for more information about our club, or if you'd like me to send you a recent copy of our newsletter.

Hello M.!
I'm very glad you are researching a support group. I have two singleton children and my 2 yr old ident twin boys. Having four boys is enough to want to go for help! I do recommend a "multiples" support group because it's great support for YOU. It gives you a chance to become a better mom by hearing and sharing parenting ideas with other multiple moms. It makes you feel normal to hear you are not the only one experiencing a particular situation. Even after having 2 older boys, I still received advice that I had never thought of before. Most groups have guest speakers, playdates, and scheduled events you can participate. I'm not too sure on which area you reside, but here are several local groups:

Clusters Moms of Multiples (www.clustersmoms.net)
I am currently an active member of this group. It is a well established group with 100+ members.

Will County Mothers of Twins (www.wcmotc.com)
I know they are in Bolingbrook and are also a well established club much like Clusters

Southwest Twins Meetup Group.
You'll have to google this one. It is a playgroup for the Plainfield, Shorewood, Joliet area. I just found this group.

Southwest Suburban Moms Of Multiples (www.swsmom.com)
It is a very new group that meets at the Bible Baptist Church in Joliet on the 3rd Monday of every month. I know a lot about this group because I am the founder. There was nothing for moms in the Joliet area.I kept running into multiple moms out here in Joliet and giving them info on Clusters and Will County Moms, and everyone kept saying it was too far. Being a part of such a great group as Clusters, I felt a need to share that experience. You are welcomed to attend our February meeting. We are having a fantastic guest speaker.

My best advice to you is to attend a meeting at the different groups in your area and see which one is most comfortable for you. I hope this info helps.

Well wishes,
M.

I started an online Twins e-mail group, but so far I have not found and actual multiples group around here. I was told that it had kind of fizzled out. You are more than welcome to join my e-mail group. There are about 20 members or so. :)

M.-

I just found out I am having twins. I am so totally overwhelmed. This was very unexpected, and I could use some help as I am not really sure how I am going to handle double duty. I already have children, but they were all very spaced out and two and once seems scary. If you find any twins groups, please let me know. I would like to join. Thanks!

Hi!

It is a bummer that the majority of "groups" are mom focused and don't include Dad's at all. I know a lot of times I feel bad when I go to Mom Night Out's and my husband has no where to go.

I originally joined Will County Mother of Twins Club. Personally, I didn't like this group. Feel free to PM for more details. I just recently joined Clusters out of Palos Heights. I wish I would have joined this group from the beginning. Go to www.nomotc.org for a location near you.

You could also try a local Moms Club for other support. I am on the board of MOMS Club of New Lenox and it's a great group. It encompasses the areas of Frankfort, NL, Mokena, Manhattan, Wilton Ctr and Elwood. To find a chapter new you visit www.momsclub.org.

You can also try Meetup.com for multiples groups or moms groups in the areas.

CafeMoms also has some nice online support groups and my favorite BY FAR is twinstuff.com

Good luck!

M.,
We have 2 1/2 year old identical boy twins and are part of the Michiana Parents of Multiple club. We meet the third Wednesday of every month at Crest Haven Church of the Brethren in South Bend. This month we are meeting at Hacienda on Miami Street. It is a very supportive group. The dads don't come to meeting nights much but do the play groups and couples nights. My husband would love to meet another dad of similar aged twins and I'm always up for meeting new moms of twins. Don't know where you live but hope it is close enough. Let me know if you've got any questions. God bless. J.

You didn't say what area you live in, but I am a member of Clusters Mothers of Multiples. This is a very active club with some really terrific women in it. We meet monthly on the 2nd Wed. evening of the month in Palos. Clusters MOMs is a member of the Illinois Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs (MOTC) and the National Organization of MOTC. If Clusters doesn't work for you location-wise, you can search for other MOTCs through the NOMOTC.org website which lists local clubs.

Please be assured that even though we are called "Mothers of Twins" we wholeheartedly welcome Dads to participate! But generally speaking, the Wed. night meetings are usually a kind of "moms night out" and a chance to network and socialize with other mothers of twins. Be sure to check out our club's website at www.clustersmoms.net. We have a huge kids' clothing and equipment sale every spring and fall. The next one is on March 8th at Tinley Park High School. Great place to get some awesome deals on gently used stuff for your kids!

I've only been in the club for 2-1/2 years (we moved from CA, and my identical boy twins are 10 yrs old), but I have really enjoyed getting involved with the group! I now have many new friends through Clusters!

My mom belongs to MOMMS club. It's mother of multiple miracles group. And although the moms meet once a month they do outings all the time where it's a family thing and the dad's get together and are involved and really get to know eachother too.
It's a great club I remember growing up all the fun outtings we had and I wasn't a multiple, my little sister were so you can seem that it really is fun for the whole family. Infact every summer we still go with my mom and her MOMMS group to the waterpark and baseball games.

If you want more info let me know.

I have newborn twin girls and joined my group because I'm relatively new at being a full time mom (my older daughter has typically been in daycare part time while I work from home). I knew it would be exhausting taking care of these two kids (my husband doesn't help at night except on weekends, and only takes one baby at that).

For me it has been invaluable, at least in getting advice. I've had so many questions and would otherwise have had no one to turn to (mom's of singletons have a completely different experience and thus are no help).

I'm a member of the Tri Cities mothers of twins and triplets club. They serve the Kane, Kendall County areas. There is also Double Blessings for Dupage County and I know there is a twins club in Will county as we all tend to have our resales around the same time of the year.
