So What Happened?

So far, so good. Tried a product called "Lice Free" which is homeopathic. Has helped so far but only been one day. Tonight my husband started itching his head so had to do his head, then the whole house all over again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and the cars, and the beds) My electric bill is going to be outrageous this month. Hope this works. Will keep you updated on how it goes tomorrow at daycare. Thanks for the advice and I think I will try the tea tree oil, that sounds good. Since my girl is so young, she can't stand the sound of the blow dryer so I know that would not work for her, but it sounds fantastic. Thanks again.

Update at daycare: no head lice, no nits. They told me to comb every day for 30 days.

yes doctors have told me that the over the counter stuff don't really work. They told me to get olive oil put on there hair massage it through then get a plastic bag like a walmart bag put it tightly over there head then get a blow dryer and blow it over the bag as hot as the child can stand it. Do it for about 20 min. take the bag off and comb through with the lice comb. then they said to get tee tree oil and add to regular shampoo and when you wash your childs hair regularly this will keep them away lice don't like the smell. It really works.

i use alcohol and vinegar. wet the hair. pour on the alcohol. let it sit for a few minutes (this kills the bugs). rinse out the alcohol. wash with regular shampoo. rinse hair. pour on the vinegar (this looses the nits for easier removal). let it sit for a few minutes. rinse out. use conditioner so there will be no nots in the baby's hair.

i use this on my daughter - she has very long very thick hair. i have also used this on myself when i got the bugs from my daughter - i have waist length hair and it is very thick also. i prefer this because there are no harmful chemicals.

for shampoo and conditioner, i highly recommend tea tree oil. i buy the shampoo and conditioner from a salon because i have found that it works better.

Treat their head with nix as soon as possiable. I would then collect anything stuffed and would harbour the lice and place in plastic bags for a month or so. Wash all bedding in hot water and hot dryer. Vaccum your floors and get rid of the bag you vaccum with or filter if it is bagless. Spary down your matresses and soft furniture with the bug spray you can buy with the nix.
We have had this before and we did all of the above and got rid of the pest.

Good luck!

As funny as this sounds put mayonnaise in her/his hair for about an hour and the mayo smothers the and kills the lice. Run with warm water and the hair is oily that the dead lice slides right out. Hope that helps! Good luck!!!!

if your child goes to daycare then you should look into letting them know that your girl has lice and to check the other children. also you need to wash all you can in hot water. i am a hairdresser and you have to treat the person twice, once then 10 days later, and comb, comb, comb the hair. there is a spray out by NIX for furniture and other things your can't wash. personally the over the counter stuff does work, just ask the pharmasist which one you can use on your daughter. i hope you get rid of the lice. by the by lice like clean hair so it is not a dirty disease and your husband could just be feeling sympathy itching i know i do when i get a case in my chair.

RID- buy the shampoo, spray, and buy a medal comb- the plastic ones don't work as well. wash everything that be washed. once its clean don't put it back in the room with the unwashed items. spray and vacuum the bed, and everything else needs to go into a plastic bag for at least 2 weeks.
good luck

Hi Dorthy, When my daughter was 3 she had the worst case of head lice. I tried everything. Finally I called the Ped to see if there was something they could prescribe. They told me no and suggested using Mayo and saran wrap. Leave it on as long as you can. I left it on for 8 hrs during the day. I also had to cut about four inches off of her hair because the eggs were getting caught at the bottom of her hair. She had it for 6 months or so before we finally got rid of it. Also, the same day you do this (if you decide to) bag up all of her stuffed animals and leave them in the bag for 2 weeks, wash her sheets and pillow in HOT WATER. Get the lice spray and spray your carpets. And treat your pets, sometimes they can carry too. Hope this helps, I know it really stinks!

Hi D.,

Melaleuca oil (the highest grade tea tree oil) is the only safe way to get rid of head lice.RID has caused brain damage if left on the scalp even a minute or two longer than recommended. Please dont use that or anything like that on your little one's head. Lindane which is the ingredient in RID is not even legal to manufacture here in the US. Melaleuca oil is not only safe for a 3 month old but is also good for her. It will also repel any future infestations. There are products for the laundry, carpet and any other place lice hide.I can help you become a member of Melaleuca, Inc. which has the highest quality of Melalueca oil in the world. (It's a membership club. Usually the first annual fee is $29.00 but right now has a special $1.00 membership fee until 6/15, yes ONE dollar for a years membership). It would be worth it to get the oil. Please call me at ###-###-#### as I can't get to a computer every day. (I am at the beach for the summer and the technology stinks where I am). I can explain everything then. I have some oil with me and would be glad to get it to you to help your baby as soon as possible.

A safe and natural way to get rid of lice is to put mayonaise not miracle whip in the hair and comb through the hair with a fine tooth comb, dont forget to do everyones hair. And comb everyday until their is no eggs left to see. Spray the house and wash clothes put unwashables in the dryer for about20 to 30 minutes. But keep the mayo in hair over night then wash the sheets blankets and pillows again. I put my clothes and everything in trash bags spray in the bags then wash everything. That is because i have a phobia of lice. I had long hair as a child and it was black mayo always worked for my parents and myself with my kids its cheap and it works great. 25 year old mother with 4 kids.

i used olive oil on my kids hair. it washes out after 2 washes and conditions the scalp. you will have to treat your house and retreat every couple of days but it works well. otherwise i'd say nix or rid unless the lice is immune then take the baby to the dr he will prescribe something.
