Seeking Advice in the Clinton Township Area from Other Moms

My son and his girl just found out that she is pregnant. They are not married and I was just wondering if anyone in the area has been to the health dept. for pre=natal visits and vitamins? Do they need to apply for medicaid and where should they go to do this? I am wondering if they should be looking for doctors in the area that accept medicaid. Neither of them have insurance from where they are working. Any advice would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

Im not sure about the health dept but...she can buy pre natal vitamins over the counter for now...a doctor usually wont see someone unless they're about 8 weeks pregnant. but she can apply for medicaid by finding an FIA office in her area and medicaid backdates 90 days. so once medicaid is approved (make sure she tells them she's preg to put a rush on it) she then has to pick a plan...I had Great Lakes Health and my dr accepted it. my obgyn has 3 offices one in chesterfield, one in clinton twp, and one in detroit. the one is at 17 and garfield, ###-###-####. Her name is Dr. Angela Messina! an amazing doctor! Good Luck!

I am not sure about the health dept for those services. I went there when I was younger for birthcontrol and it was based on income. As for vitamins, over the counter prenatal at meijer is what I took because it was cheaper than my insurance copay and the doctor approved it.

R.,
I agree Medicaid is the way to go. Yes, look for doctors that accept Medicaid (either straight or through another insurance co). She can apply on-line at michigan.gov. Healthy Kids is the program that covers pregnant women. In my recent experience they can take up to 6 weeks to respond to an application. Apply sooner than later. But, if accepted, they will pay for services received as of the application date.
Good Luck ~ Best Wishes, M.

All of these women are correct in what they are saying, the only thing I want to add is, they say if you marry the father of the child, you have to pay back the money used to pay the doctors. I am pretty sure that is what they told my friend, I don't know if there is a timeline stipulation, but for sure it is something they should ask about.
Have a good day and congrats on being a grandma

She needs to go over to the "Departement of Human Services" located at 21885 Dunham Rd, Clinton Township MI 48036. This is in the Keffer Building on Dunham.

http://www.michigan.gov/dhs

The building is located almost behind the Macomb County Sheriff's Department and get the necessary paperwork and get a case worker assigned. Then she can apply for Medicaid or if they are eligable for the Michigan Healthy Kids insurance. There are guidlines and elidgability for both.

The second thing she needs to do is go over to the WIC office (Women and Infant Children), which is located in the same building. She can call and find out what paper work she will need and if she qualifies. They will help out with some food until the baby is born then formula and stuff.

Good luck to both of them and Congratulations Grandma.

Kroger/Walmart and I think Kmart are selling prenatal vitamins for around 4-9$.

Good luck!
