We are considering moving to South Austin. We have lived in NorthWest Austin for 10yrs and have three young children. Any family friendly neighborhoods that you would recommend? Any advice about South Austin in general?
Thank you!

We have some homes for sale in our neighborhood, but they usually move quickly. Western Oaks (The Villages at Western Oaks are newer and south of us) subdivision has many older homes, many updated, and lovely greenbelts, etc. I can honestly say that we (and our neighbors) think this is a great place to live. Check it out :)

I've lived in South Austin for 14 years and have a 1 year old and a 4 year old. I second the previous poster's comments. Very family friendly neighborhoods and convenient locations.

I have always loved living in south Austin and just moved further south to one of these family friendly neighborhoods. I think most of the planned community type neighborhoods in south Austin are family friendly because they take in consideration parks, schools, recreation etc. I have several friends that live in the Shady Hollow area, and some in a small neighborhood called Oak Parke that is nice and of course there's Circle C it's very family friendly, really big but lots of recreation areas and they are building another pool and recreation area as well. There's a lot of resources and businesses geared towards families all along the Slaughter, Brodie and Mopac area.

Of all of the places mentioned, I would choose Circle C. They have a very vocal and powerful HOA...super important and that is why the schools in that neighborhood are wonderful. The parks are clean and well maintained. The stores are trendy and convenient. Circle C has a great pool and strong, plentiful moms groups. I feel the houses in Circle C are fairly reasonable. Some are reasonable, but need updating. I think you will be very happy down south. I used to live in The Villages of Shady Hollow, but moved because Brodie Lane sucks (understatement); the HOA sucks; and there is tons of vandalism that nothing is being done about. I now live out in the country south of Shady Hollow. Shady Hollow has a middle school called Bailey that lost half of its population to a new middle school that opened up in Circle C, which allowed students from a less accredited school to join. This made Bailey a less desirable school in my mind. Circle C is your very best bet, especially for resale value. Good luck!
