My child can turn on the water in bathroom sink. This scares me as the water can get hot quickly.She,of course,wants to play in the water. Does anyone have a child proofing solution so I can stop her from turning the water off and on? She had a step stool which I removed,it made it easier for her to reach the handles. I would like to put it back,she needs to wash, as she is potty training. So something that slides off and on if there is such a thing, or any other item that works? Thanks
I allow my kids to have sink play time. We often do it in the kitchen sink (they stand on chairs). That way I can monitor them and they get their water fix. If they touch the tap they are all done.
Allow for a time when it is okay and fun!

Why not turn off the hot water supply to your bathroom sink? Then your daughter can still wash her hands, but the water will not become hot.
Most valves are found below the sink and back near the wall. The hot water valve should be the one on the left, while the cold water valve is the one on the right.

I don't have a solution to keeping the water off, but you may be able to turn the temperture on your hot water tank down some. Oftentimes we have it way too hot anyway and we don't need it that hot. This will save money on the gas bill too.
My friend had that issue with her kids. She ended up turning off the water supply to the sink and having her kids wash their hands in the kitchen sink with her help.
I personally think that was a bit extreme - but it works for them!

That's a tough one. I always taught my kids to use the cold water only. We explained to them how the hot water can hurt them. They're now 5 & 7 and continue to use only cold water. If your sink is set up on one lever then this can be a little harder.
Another thing you may want to consider is lowering the temperature of your water heater to keep her from getting scalded. Also, some newer faucets have the option of regulating the temperature of the water at the sink/tub to prevent scalding of little children.

There is that Purell sanitizing stuff that even nurses use to 'wash' their hands.
Or try explaining that while it's good to wash hands after using the potty, water can get very hot and hurt her. Also that the sink is not a playground. You're going to have to stand by and monitor her until she stops.
i would shut the bathroom door - if she can open doors but on a childproof lock or hook on the top of he door.
she wont do this forever but it is a annoying now..
It's normal for children to play in the water...and I do suggest that you make sure your hot water heater is turned down to 120 deg. Leaves it hot enough for dishes,laundry etc. and may be uncomfortably hot but won't burn. In time she'll figure out when she can/can't use the faucets lol. Just takes some patience & firm supervision...otherwise...you'll at some point have an overflowing bathroom if she leaves the water running!
Can you just show which side it hot? My son is 2 1/2 and actually born the same month/year as your child.. he plays in the sink all the time and knows very quickly if he's turned it on the wrong side and switches it. But really he has probably turned it on hot one time.
Water play is SO important for toddlers! I would turn off the hot water at the shut off under the sink... that way you tdon't have to worry about her getting burned.

My son used to play in the water, too. I finally broke down and gave him a shallow tub of water he COULD play in sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor (tile flooring, easy wipe and dry). Then I would accompany him to the bathroom to wash his hands until he got the idea that the sink is NOT a place to play, but the tub IS. I don't have any problems anymore. :o)

You can lower the temp on your hot water heater, keep the door shut and/or supervise closely. That's about all. All toddlers are fascinated with water play. Give her water play outdoors in this warm weather. Enjoy your little sweetie!
I'd suggest giving your little one lots of supervised water play time. It's natural for toddlers to love playing with water. Fill a small basin with a little bit of water. Put lots of fun toys in there too. Such as funnel, spout, boats, Ivory soap (it floats), small plastic cups etc. Sit outside with he, watching her to be sure nothing happens, and let her have at it.Sometimes just adding another bathtime to play each day is enough. Bubbles are always great at that time too. S.
I don't know of a way to child proof the sink...but make sure you're hot water heater is turned way down. At least then she can't actually burn or scald herself.
