Hi moms,

My husband is currently looking into changing his H1-B visa status to permanent residency (not through employer). Could anyone recommend a great & trustworthy immigration lawyer? We live in Wheeling but won't mind traveling into the city if necessary.

Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

most of the time you do not need a lawyer. you can do everything by yourself. what status will your husband base his I-485 application, especially changing it from H1 visa? through marriage or through H1, which i assuming is not the case, if he is not doing it through his employer. if you guys are going through this and applying for green card through marriage, it is a very easy thing to do, i mean filling out paperwork. i honestly do not recommend using a lawyer, they cannot do anything more than you can, just charge you thousands for something that you can do by reading the instructions.
i am sorry i do not have any a lawyer recommendations, just wanted to tell you, i went through all the immigration process by myself, and never had a problem, as long as everything is done legally and presented with proof.

AILA, that's all you need to know. Google this and it will direct you to one in your area. Me and my husband hired a lawyer, who got disbarred and is awaiting trial for ripping people off. After plenty of research i found out that any good immigration lawyer should be a member of AILA(the lawyer we hired isn't a member). We are still waiting on his H2b visa and greencard. How did your husband attain a h1b visa? The marriage law changed many years ago, i have been married since 07, with 2 children and it still doesn't seem to help. good luck!

She came highly recommended to us by Janet Reno's good friend in Florida (seriously). We did like her.

I work in a facility that does physical exams for immigration. It has been my experience that most immigration attorneys are not created equal. Be very careful when picking your attorney. Where I live, there is something callled the International Institute. They provide the same services as an attorney but, at a much lower cost and know what they are doing, which is not always the case with attorneys. I don't know if there is an place like this where you live but it would be worth looking into. Good luck!
