Hello fellow moms, I need your help!! My son had some tubes put in his ear about four yrs ago. The right ear is good to go. No tube no trouble. The left ear however is full of earwax. We have tried Domeboro drops twice and it hasn't worked according to my ENT. He told me yesterday that he wants to perform surgery to clean the ear out. I consulted with my relative who knows about surgery (she isn't in this state though) and she said there is a nonsurgical procedure to cleaning out the ear and that it shouldn't require surgery unless there is a hole or something more serious happening. My son doesn't ever get ear infections and he has no kind of discharge or discomfort. Please help me find a good ENT for my son. Thanks.
Thank you moms for all your feedback!!! I took my son this past Friday to a new ENT. The ENT was great!!! He used a microscope and cleaned out his ear. Guess what the tube came out too!!! It was in the earwax!!!!!!

I recently had my tonsils taken out by a doctor at Charlton Methodist and my niece had her tubes and tonsils taken out by this same doctor. Dr. Hsu and Wong. They are in a practice together and I have seen both of them. They are both wonderful doctors. They are very straight forward about everything. My niece had tubes put in her ears when she was 2 and we found out from these doctors that she never needed them because her ear infections where being caused by her tonsils and ever since she had her tonsils removed she has had no problem. Everyone I know sees these doctors. Hope this helps.
my son sees dr. peters at medical city dallas, i don't know where you live. he recently put tubes in my sons ears. however, he has taken care of both my children and was never in a hurry to put tubes in. my daugher had recurrent ear infections and he never recommended tubes. he places cochlear implants as well. if you want more contact info, let me know. -jm
It sounds like you distrust your son's ENT. What was it that made you think he was not being straight with you, and if it was just that he used the word "surgery," why don't you ask him about whether there is anything else you can try?
Dr. Wayne Kirkham is a wonderful ENT. I had a temporary loss of hearing because I had so much wax buildup in one ear. He cleaned it out right in his office - not painful and certainly not surgical. I can't seem to find his number. He is on Forest Lane in Medical City.
I think you need to get clarification. Surgery is not needed to clean the outer ear of wax. If your son has thick fluid in his middle ear (behind the eardrum), then surgery is needed for that. I would be very surprised if an ENT recommended surgery for earwax removal only.
I do not know where you live, but here are a few good ones around the Dallas area Dr. Rohn at Plano Presby and Dallas Presby, Dr. Maddox at Baylor Garland, Dr. Skiles at Baylor Frisco, and Dr. Bauer in Coppell.
Both of my kids have seen John Seifert (Jupiter/635 area). I really liked him. I also have had great success with Fred Owen......good luck!
Here's the dr. who did my daughter's tonsillectomy...he is great with kids and did an awesome job:

If you're just needing to get your son's ears flushed out his pediatrician should be able to do that in his/her office. My 5-yr old son had a problem with earmax, or at least I thought it was a problem, and his pediatrician said they can flush the wax out in less than 10 minutes.
