Hi S.,
I'm not exactly sure where you're located with relation to the border (21202 or 21239), but if you're looking for public schools, there are 2 great public schools in the area. They really care about their students:

Leithwalk Elementary (prek-5th Sherwood Rd)- I have a 8 yr. old cousin who attends currenly. He was in private school from pre-k to 2nd grade and actually was behind when attended this school. They are on the ball with regards to the State testing, attendance and overall learning. They MAKE their kids - not throw them on the back burner.

Another school in the area is:
Northwood Appold Academy (K-12)(future) (corner of Coldspring & Loch Raven Blvd)- This is a Baltimore City Public Charter school. Currently the school goes up to 4ht grade (I think). They plan to have the school go up to 12th grade. The older students that attend now will be "the first" of each higher grade for the school. It became a charter school in 2004 and I've heard nothing but good things. I'm sure they'll be planning to build another school to accomadte the "upper grades" but for right now, its one building. They include the art of karate as a part of the physical education (and you can also sign them up for classes after school). T

hese 2 schools seem to have it on the ball, if you can't afford the private education ( I know I can't. Take note that the private schools in the area however do offer offer scholarhsips and tuition aid, but are very difficult to get) Good luck! Let us know the outcome!

Hi S.,
You may want to try the area preschools. I know many offer an excellent kindergarten. Many churches in the area offer preschool and kindergarten. Good luck!

Check out The Green School- public charter with a lottery system but very progressive. Also might want to check out Park, Waldorf, Roland Park- expensive schools but worth the money if you're interested in private. Other public charters with lotteries, Midtown Academy and City Neighbors have great reputations. Start early most of those schools are full for next year. If you're looking for the year after visit and check them all out.

Good hunting-
J
