they are the best!!! low key, we have been going there for years!
My daughter just turned 4 and is very athletic. I would like for her try tumbling/gymnastics. I would like to find a group that is good for beginners. I don't want to be part of a high-pressure, competitive group. Has anyone had a good experience with a local gym in Pearland?

Try AA Gymnastics Academy in Pearland/ Alvin area. They are off 2351 toward Alvin. Kathy Alva is the owner and head coach and she practices under the philosophy that gymnastics is supposed to be fun and educational. If your child is "good", then good for them. Very low pressure and great exercise. ###-###-####. Tell her L. recommended you.
Good Luck.
Hi S.,
My daughter was the same. She was very athletic very early on. We tried cheer which teaches tumbling, gymnastics, and various dance classes. I found that cheer was very competivite, especially with all the make-up they are required to wear. That was not the issue for me in deciding to pull her out, but the fact that the older girls would dress with their shorts rolled up high and she felt this was how one is suppose to wear shorts, so this is what she would do. I knew it was not for her age group at the time.
We then went to gymnastics, which was great. The younger classes are excellent pretty much anywhere cause tney are not yet competitive. Not until she gets a couple of years under her belt will they begin to view her skills to guide her towards the competition team or keep her in her regular classes, sometimes moving her over to the competition team later on. It's when she gets to the competition team that multiple hours per week are needed to be dedicated to the sport. It's at that time that the parents need to focus on their kids time in activites and their dedication to their school work because it's these habits that they learn in early elementary that will follow them throughout school. So, if mom and dad think that gymnastics is more of a priority than school, that is what the kids will think. I knew one girl who failed first grade cause of her reading level. She was at practice for 3-4 hours per day during the week. Her mother did nothing but blame her teacher for her not being able to read at the neeed level to pass to the 2nd grade (I am sure there was more than just her reading level that caused the failure, but this was the main focus of our conversation). All I could think was that had she put as much time into reading with her daughter as she had put into gymnastics practice, then her failing may not have happened.
Sorry, I was not help in finding a place, but like I said any gymnastics place at her age is just fine. Just keep it in persepctive. Like I said, my daughter is very good and learned quickly, but I never pushed her. Today, (she is 9 now) she does jiu-jitsu (martial arts) and still has those strong legs, which helps her when she is up against bigger kids or the boys:) She also is in ballet (also a sport that the strong legs come in handy) and auditioned and is now performing in one of the biggest holiday shows in town. So, whether or not your daughter sticks to gymnastics or moves on to another interest I think that being in gymnastics is a benefit to kids, even the boys. In fact, I think my son may have enjoyed it a little more cause he was able to let all that energy loose.
Good luck!
