Hello again everybody. I need to make an appointment for a colonoscopy. I have looked for online reviews for gastroenterologists but have not come up with too much. I would like to find someone in the western suburbs (Downers, Darien, etc.) or even the southwest suburbs (Palos, Orland, Oak Lawn [but not Southwest Gastroenterology], etc.) A doctor at Loyola would be ok too. Thank you in advance for any suggestions you may have.

So What Happened?

Thank you SJM, Kathleen and Margaret. I am not looking forward to the preparation and it would be so much easier to do it all in one day. I will find out about that. I will check to see which of the other doctors are in my plan. Thank you again!

Hi, I haven't had one myself, but was just reading in Prevention magaizine recently that even though many Dr.s will tell you to start your "treatment" (the drink) the night before, (usually half at night and half in the a.m.), that is has been shown to be just as effective and much easier on the patient to drink all of it the morning of the procedure instead. You would need an afternoon appointment, but the cramping and stomach pains are supposed to be easier to deal with after a full nights sleep. It also suggested eating very light a day or two before, to help ease these effects. Sounds like the "pre-treatment" is more uncomfortable than the procedure itself, but these tips are supposed to help. Good luck!!

I highly recommend Dr. George Stathopoulis (I may be mispelling his last name) out of Elmhurst Hospital. The BEST gastro doctor ever. My Mom has had a chronic disease for decades and had seen a few other gastro docs over the years until she found Dr. George. There is no one better!! Good luck.

I work for Suburban Gastroenterologists in Naperville. There are six doctors. Colonoscopies are done at the attached surgical center, Midwest Endoscopy Center. The office and surgical center are very nice and still fairly new. Our most popular (and busy) doctor is Dr Berger, but really all the Drs are good. There is one female physician (Dr Gundlapalli). We are currently switching websites, so if you can't pull it up, the number is: ###-###-####. Good luck with your search!
