I don't know all that much about it, but we looked into doing a french drain to fix our flooding problems and wound up doing a sump pump instead. It was much cheaper, and we don't have water in our house every time it rains now.
Can someone please help me? I am in need of a french drain. I didn't even know what a french drain was when i was told i needed one but apparently it will help save my basement from flooding in the rainy weather. I have contacted plumbers and landscaping services and have not found anyone who will call me back. Can someone please help me get a reasonable price for this BROKE mom?

I just moved from the mountains of West Virginia and we had a french drain. They do not work if you get really heavy rains. Is the floor of your basement concrete or dirt? The reason I ask is that you can put in a sump pump all on your own. These will work and a LOT more cost effective. I am literally speaking 1/10th of what it will cost you to get a French Drain installed.

Go to Home Depot or Lowes or whatever is there like that. French drains are the white plastic tubes with holes down one side. You use them underground to transport water from the down spout to away from the house. the holes in the side will also let the water in the ground flow into the drain so it can be transported away. I'm not explaining this well so just go to hardware type store.

The guy we have do most of our landscaping work - he put in french drains for me and he's not too pricy, and very respectful and cool. Email me if you are interested and I will give you his phone number.
