Seeking a Day Summer Camp for My 4 Year Old

I have a 4 year old daughter that was in Pre-Kindergarten on Mondays and Tuesdays and participated in dance every Wednesday night. Now that the school year and dance are coming to an end, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to a Summer Day Camp or something like that that I could enroll her in. She will be VERY bored this summer if I don't get her into something. She is going to take summer dance lessons, but that's only July and August. I live on the Southside of Des Moines, so I would prefer it if I could get her into something on the southside, but I don't mind driving. She is interested in all kinds of academics, arts and music. Any suggestions? Thank you!

What can I do next?

The YMCA has several day camps available to preschoolers. Each branch has some. My kids are enrolled at the Waukee YMCA for week long camps in the mornings from 9am-noon. The prices generally run for $80 per week for non-members and $60 per week for members. Each week has a different theme, so you can choose what you feel your daughter will like. Otherwise, I know several people to send their kids to day camps at Blank Park Zoo and at the Science Center. Good luck!

Our church -- Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Urbandale -- offers some great one week summer camps. In fact, I was just looking at the list myself when your message came through. Here's the web address:

Hi, I live in Indianola and we have a great parks and rec department out here that has all kinds of things for the kids to do. I have a 3 yr old and a 6 yr old who are signed up to do things all summer. Have you looked to see if Des Moines offers something similar? I know the Y has things for kids to do in the summer, they are cheaper if you are a member, but my understnading is that you don't have to be a member to sign up for their programs. Also there are usually all kinds of programs offered through the public library. Just a few ideas, I hope some of these might help.

I will be teaching a Play and Learn group at Burke Park across from Lutherna Hospital and at Union Park. Between the 2 of them, they will run 5 morning a week from 9:30 to 11. Your younger child could attend as well. This is through the United Way and is free. You would need to attend as well. If you want to know more, respond to me and I'll get you the details.
