Mamas, I'm really counting on your feedback as I'm new to the island. I need to find Drs for my family soon!! On the mainland my children and I saw a family physician. I really like seeing one Dr that keeps track of our family medical history. I would like to do the same if you can recommend me a fabulous Family Dr. Your recommendation for A good Pediatrican, OB/GYN and Dr for my hubby will be very helpful. I'm currently living in Kahala, but I don't mind driving to see a good doctor.

What can I do next?

For the children I would recommend Dr. Janice Smolec. She is in the building directly across pearlridge shopping center. The one next to the big toys r us. I can give you the number but if you do a google search her name and telephone will pop up. We have 2 sons and I have been taking them there since they were both born.
Good luck

Hi there. I live in Kaneohe. but drive out to town close to Ala Moana for my children's ped. She is a wonderful doctor, I trust her with their lives. And the funny thing is she just got the knack for kids. If you have small children, they tend to take a liking to her very quickly. I recommend her to everyone that asks. Her name is Dr. Donna Mah. You can send me a message if youd like her number to interview her or what not.
My OBGYN is a man, if you are willing. If you were planning on getting pregnant again, Dr. Eesha Bhattacharyya is the best delivery doctor ever. Ever. I know you mentioned youd like to see a woman. There is a nurse midwife that practices in the office. Her name is Reagan-she is also great and very easy to talk to. Pm me if you wanna know any number or have any questions.

M. - I highly recommend Dr Nadine Salle (at Queens). She's a Pediatrician who also operates a General Practice. She started her practice as a life-cycle approach, thinking she'd keep her children into adulthood, which sounds like a great idea to me. The bonus is that you can take your kids there and she can also be your primary care physician. She is amazingly thorough and resourceful. Only drawback is, she runs behind, so call before you drive to your appt. They'll tell you to wait if she's running late. I must admit though that my kids don't see her. I'd already started my kids with Dr Marni Dezzani (Diamond Head private practice) when I found Dr Salle later for me. Dr Dezzani is great too! Good luck.

**ADDING THIS: Dr. Marni Dezzani... is the Primary Doctor at Kahala Pediatrics, which I mentioned below. This is the name of "HER" office, and in which she has 2 other Doctors in her office as well. All good.

The "Honolulu Magazine" annually has an issue about the "Best" Doctors in Honolulu, per category.
http://www.honolulumagazine.com/Honolulu-Magazine/Search/...

Or, http://www.honolulumagazine.com/Honolulu-Magazine/July-20...

It also depends on what kind of medical insurance you have, in choosing your Doctors.

You can also go the the websites for "HMSA" for example and research Doctors, or do Google Searches per the name of the Doctor, or the medical insurance company will usually give you a directory booklet of Doctors per specialty.

For OB/GYN I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Benton Chun... he is regularly rated as #1 in the tops of the field. He is very smart, and very experienced and very good (but strict, but nice), and has the ability to think very quickly and effectively in emergency situations, and is very good with surgery and has good hands. Very experienced. Even the nurses & Doctors at hospitals go to him, and routinely say things like "if you are his patient, you have the best." I don't know if he is taking 'new' patients, so you will have to find out. Even fellow Doctors recommend him.
He is located downtown, at the Queen's Medical Center "Physicians Office Building."

Other OB/GYN's are: http://www.ucomparehealthcare.com/drs/hawaii/obstetrics_a...

For Pediatricians, Kapiolani Hospital for Women & Children is the tops in Honolulu and the Pacific Rim area. MANY good Ped's there & Specialists. They have a website as well.

In the Kahala Area, there are: "Kahala Pediatrics." They have 3 Doctors there, (Male & Female), and good and nice.
http://honolulu.citysearch.com/profile/3229360/honolulu_h...

Or at the Straub Clinic in Hawaii-Kai, there is Dr. Brian Tanabe, a Pediatrician, who has excellent reviews as well.

http://www.straubhealth.org/sch/clinics/hawaii-kai.aspx

There is also: Dr. Sia, who has an excellent reputation for Pediatrics and regularly rated as tops. But I don't know if he is accepting new patients.
http://www.healthgrades.com/directory_search/physician/pr...

In Hawaii-Kai, for Adult/Family Doctors, there is also the "Queen's Health Clinic" http://www.queensmedicalcenter.net/healthcare_centers/haw... And they have good Doctors there as well.... but they only take children from 14 years old and up. Dr. Grote is supposed to be good.

Other Family Doctors are: Dr. Kalani Brady http://www.healthgrades.com/directory_search/physician/pr...

Dr. Jon DeBoard (Internal Medicine/Family Doctor) http://www.healthgrades.com/directory_search/physician/pr...

You can also go to this website, to check on 'ratings'/reviews of Doctors:

For DENTISTS:
1) Pediatric: Dr. Clyde Uchida, at Kahala Mall, very good reputation. http://www.clydeyuchidaddsinc.com/

2) For adult/family Dentistry (near Kahala Mall):
Dr. Paul Tanaka, http://www.paultanakadds.com/Dr._Paul_Tanaka/Home_Page.html
and, Dr. Lance Teramoto. http://www.smilesofaloha.com/index.html

Both Dentists are very good, smart, and very nice.

I'm not from this area, but used to be, and these are the Doc's I know of, have used, and know of just via word of mouth.

Oh, for kids play-groups, try a Google Search on Play groups or "Mommy groups" for your area, using search words "Kahala", "East Oahu", etc. LOTS of parents also go to the Gymboree classes at Kaimuki, and good for meeting others. There is also "Waialae Iki Park" which many kids/parents go to. Nice, clean public park. ALSO, the Kahala Mall website www.kahalamallcenter.com has a monthly or weekly Toddler Time... which is free, and Barnes & Noble I think on Tuesdays, has a 'story time" for kids, which is free. Just go to their website.

Well good luck, just some suggestions.
Hope it helps,
