Hi T.,

I don't know if you have heard but there are many studies thathave been done which link autism to the mercury (thermesol) in the 36 vaccines on the official schedule that are given to children since the 1990's which is when the autism epidemic started. The goodnews is that because of this information children are being treated and tremendous results are happening.

Below are links to some very informative websites and studies as well as a very good book. At last there is hope and treatment for these children. Please look into them for your son.

GOOD BOOK TO CHECK OUT

A Shocking Discovery: Observations of a
Speech/Language Pathologist
from 1975-2005: What Have We Done To Our Children?

(Paperback)

by Marcia Staggs Abbott (Author)

Book Description

This easy-to-read book contains information that is of interest to any parent. Over a span of 30 years, the author, a speech and language pathologist, observed a marked increase in the number of children diagnosed with autism, ADD, ADHD, learning and speech disabilities, etc. She hypothesizes that this drastic change is related to the childhood vaccination schedule.
Indoctrination versus education is the main theme of this book, as it challenges that which we have always believed about vaccinations and our children.

T., I know exactly what you are going through. My son is 4.5 and was diagnosed PDD-NOS and Sesory Integration Dysfunction. He was just diagnosed ADHD. There isn't much in lines of support in Omaha. I can help answer any questions that you have. I have tons of great resource books and we are trying to find a good OT for this summer. Let me know if I can help.

There is a great group out there called the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. (NAMI) They have a large library that can help you. Join a support group and read everything about it that you can. I hear there is meds now to help but I don't know about that. I know there are some really good books out there. Good Luck and God bless your little one.

Hi, T.!
Is there a program that does sensory integration in your area? We completed such a program in the Des Moines area that helped our daughter quite a bit. While our daughter does not suffer from autism per se, she has shown some of the milder traits such as becoming easily overwhelmed in social situations. She also had trouble with textures of certain fabrics that made up her clothing, certain textures of food, hated to have her hair brushed, etc. The program she completed helped her with playing near and with other children (who can be very noisy) eating food with various textures, tolerating clothing made of different fabrics, etc. She has done very well, but is not completely "normal". Still, just accept your son as he is and love him as you feel needs to be loved. Don't have any misgivings about your instincts as a mother. And as someone who is a nurse in pediatric ER and Intensive Care, I found it hard to not try and play nurse/doctor with my kids. You just need to be a mom and let your child's doctors be his doctors. This is a lesson that took me a while to learn, but me and my children are better off now that I learned this.

I have found a lot of info on the web about autism and the "tricks of the trade". Browse the internet, look up austim institutes in your area, and STAY CALM. It is going to be a long road but it will be worth it!
I have found that this website is good. Good info, help, and sells various items too. www.autismlink.com

Since you're going to medical school, do a search on PubMed for Autism. Specifically look at the studies relating to glutathione and N-acetylcysteine (NAC) a precursor of glutathione. Also, I don't know if your child was vaccinated but look at the articles on PubMed related to Autism and mercury. Not the "party line" the actual research articles. If you need more info on a place to start email me privately. I would try to work with an MD to administer the glutathione intravenously. You can do it by nutritional supplementation but with supplementation your working with the precursors, IV is faster. Not necessarily better just faster.

Also get him on Omega-3 fatty acids now!!! In the right therapeutic proportions: 25mg of ALA (flax, hemp, or walnut oil), 325mg of EPA (fish oil), 125mg of DHA (fish oil) twice a day. Just ballpark numbers, not a prescription. Also some black currant seed oil (GLA). Also supplement with B-vitamins and vitamin E. His diet should be pristine. Nothing you can't spell should go into his body.

You are not alone. 1 in 150 children are now being diagnosed as Autistic. There is help and information out there. Do the research and open your mind. If I can help at all email me.

Hi.
I have researched autisum for reports for nursing classes I was in and the only thing that I can think of for you to help your son is PET THERAPY. Most kids with autisum have responded well with pets. For whatever reason it has a calming affect with them. Hope that helps!

Hi T.,

I am sure that you are feeling extremely overwhelmed and that is understandable! :) I have a lot of information on chemicals in our homes and the effects they can have on Autism. If you are interested I can forward them to you. If they make sense I can help you get safer products to see if that helps.

Good luck, I have a friend with a child with Autism and he is the sweetest boy you could ever meet!
