Help me out here ladys. Our house is filled with scratched cds and dvd. My darling hubby says they are broke and cant be fixed. I am sure that most of them can be, so in an affort to prove him wrong I hoped on line and looked it up. I have seen a lot about fixing them with toothpast. This suprises me because in my mind that you scratch the cd even more.
So how do you amazing woman fix your scratched cds and dvds? If its at all possabil I would rather not go out and buy and thing....maybe with jsut stuff around the house....I meen DOSE toothpast work?
Thanks for you thought!!!

The local movie rental place in town (its not a chain one, just a family owned one) cleans and repairs scatched cd's and dvd's for like $1 a piece. I would try to find a store like that. It does to the trick too.

They sell a machine that you stick your cd or dvd inside and it fixes them. I wish I could remember what it's called. I want one too.

I just saw something at our local video store that states they can fix scratched DVD's for 1.99 a piece. Worth a shot to call your local store. I've never tried it before, but it makes sense they have some sort of device to do so.

We don;t have any places around me that fix dvds anymore. But I did find an article about using some common household things, including toothpaste. I also read that you could buff the dvd with Pledge and it fills in the scratches so the dvd works again. YOu might miss a second of picture but it doesn't stop the dvd from palying. I plan to try this tonight. Here is a link about the toothpaste and even vaseline or peanut butter.

I have never used toothpast but you can go to the auto parts store and ask them for the polish for convertable top window. I think the brand name is Wagganer's? You apply, let dry and polish with a dry cloth. This only works as long as the paint side is not scratched.

Try the toothpaste. If it doesn't work, I use a small bottle of repair cream called CD Skip Fixer that cost about 6 bucks and has restored a couple of dozen discs over the past couple of years, and the bottle is barely used (just 3-4 drops per fix). It won't work on really deep scratches, but does a remarkably good job on many scratches.

I have used Rain-X, yes the stuff you put on windshields to repel water, for years to fix skipping CDs. Soak a rag with Rain-X, completely cover the scratched side, let dry and wipe off. Good Luck

I've heard that using a white pencil eraser will often do the trick. I tried it on a couple discs with mild scratches and it seemed to work!

I have found if the silver part is not scratched I am able to rip them onto my computer and burn them on to new disks. I have a tech geek hubby so I have a CD and DVD burner but never tried anything else. If the silver is scratched the data is damamged and it is pretty much nothing more than a frizbee at this point.
