SciTech Museum Aurora

It has been about 5 years since I was there. The day we were there I would say about 2/3 of the exhibits had signs on them that said they were "out of order". It was typical of other children's museums in the area - very messy, items missing from exhibits, unsupervised children running around with those missing parts, touching things that said "do not touch", etc. It may have improved in the last few years but definitely not worth the money when we went.

YES!! It's a lot of fun, especially if your kid is into science! There's another cool one in Rockford, too.

I would definately take him! It's still open. I just got an email w/the MLK hours. We went on Columbus Day and it wasn't crowded at all.

My son loves it, and he is 4. They have a basement and two floors with things. In warmer weather they have things outside in a back area.

At times it can be busy if a field trip group comes, but you could always all ahead to see if any schools are planning to come that day. If you go after lunch, there is usually less liklihood of a big group coming.

It is a fun place. It doesn't have as much as DuPage Children's Museum in Naperville, but it's usually much less crowded.

my kids love this place. all of them from the grandkids who are 5,7 and 9 all the way up to the 14 yr old 8th grader. its a lot of fun

My family went there last summer. My children were 7 and 4.5 at the time. We had a nice time. The place was empty. We had coupons from the Oaklee Guide. Since you live close, I think you should try it. It isn't a destination vacation spot but a good place to go on a rainy day. They had several cool attractions for children.

EDIT: I thought they were experiencing financial difficulties so be sure to call ahead to make sure they are still in operation.

My boys are 7 and 10 and we have been there several times and they never get bored! We stay there for hrs each time. There is so much to do for all ages! Your son will love it if he loves science.

I went there on a field trip with 3rd graders. It's a really great place for 3-4th graders, but I'm not so sure that it is really worth the cost for someone so young. I'm going to take my 3 yr old, but that's b/c we have a free pass so we'll see what she thinks. He may have fun, but be aware that a number of the things will be over his head.

We were just there in December and it was really fun. We were there on a Friday and it was pretty empty until a field trip came through. They were only there for a little while and then moved on from the area we were in. It's actually a lot bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside. There is a parking garage across the street that the museum validates or you can park in the library parking lot right next to the museum. It's metered parking though. I would highly recommend going. Sci-tech is still open, and I've taken my fourth grade class there on a field trip. We had a great time. There is a lot to play with, so I think it would be a lot of fun for a five-year-old.
