First of all, how old is your daughter?
Maybe she could do some research on how different materials are sorted and recycled based on common physical properties.
She could also possibly get some info on what percentage of material actually is recycled.

I found lots of ideas on this website too:

Do you or your daughter crochet?

For a family trip to Jamaica, I made these awesome totes out of "yarn" made from plastic grocery bags. It was a very easy thing too, the first thing I ever crocheted in my life! :-)

Is the point of the project to recycle an item using creativity?
She could use brown paper bags, tare them, glue them onto foam board, faux paint it...she will have recycled and created unique wallpaper.

perhaps she could make her own paper (you know w/a screen, h20, and recycled papers...google it!) out of recycled papers around your house...OR she could make a bird house out of an old carton...she could do a general display of ways that we can be more green around the home (ie wrapping presents in newspaper, using scraps of old fabric for quilts or dust rags, old jars to hold screws and nails, paper rolls for art projects) basically just showing how being less wasteful=being green...but then, is that scientific enough?? OR she could show how compost can be made! she could show all of the things that so many of us throw away can actually be "recycled" for our gardens by making compost...grapevine botanic gardens has a great example of this set up. hope this helps.

Jasmine,
There are a lot of ideas that you can do. The only thing is to decide what is appropriate for her age group. What grade is she and I can suggest things for her specific age.

Please post the age of the child, it's hard to make suggestions without knowing if they would be age approiate or not.

If your daughter has a recycling project due for school, then my suggestion is so have HER get on the internet and look up a project she can do. Granted, I do not know how old your daughter is, but if she is old enough to have this project assigned by her teacher, then it seems to me she is old enough to look it up on her own. I am not trying to sound rude, but I have known so many parents who do most of the leg work for their children's school projects and in my humble opinion - I feel that takes away from the childs learning experience and respnsibility over their education. I am sure if she did a search she could find plently of great ideas :)
