Do you make the lunch the night before? My kids used to take lunch and they would put the banana in their bag the night before and it would turn brown faster. the gas a banana naturally creates turns it faster especially in a bag. Don't put it in his lunch bag until right before he leaves. If this still happens, buy bananas just slightly (very slightly) green so it does not completely ripen to brown. A brown banana is actually sweeter and completely ripe versus what we consider a nice yellow banana.

Put the banana in the lunch bag just as they are about to leave for school , if left in dark places for too long then they go black very quickly.

are you putting them in a paper sack? I always think this turns them quicker...

If it is turning black because it is being bumped around in the lunchbox/bag, you could use this nifty Tupperware container I saw just the other day that is designed to hold a banana. You might see if you can find a Tupperware consultant near you to check it out.

It's just being bumped around in his lunch box. There really isn't much you can do to prevent that unless you want to wrap it up in something to keep it from banging up against the box and anything hard inside.

The banana changes color in cold dark places, both are in the lunch box. I usually put it in last and on top-remember the physics class that you hated, cold air sinks. Put all of the cold stuff on the bottom and the nana as far from it as possible.
