okay so this is gonna be long (& confusing) but here it is...

so erin is supposed to get registered for pre-k in a couple of weeks

then in sept. tre is supposed to get registered for school services since he is disabled (he can go once he is 3 which is in sept) he will be in a life skills class

okay so not every elementary school offers the pre-k program & not every elementary school offers the life skills program...so of course the elementary that erin is supposed to register with is caprock which does not offer a life skills class...the life skill class is at freedom elem., however freedom does not offer a pre-k program!!! so my problem is that even though i can ask for a transfer i cannot ask for a transfer until tre is registered in sept. which means that erin will have to start & then be transferred, which i hate!! plus i am going to have to deal with all the headache of paperwork...

i tried to get information today on which schools offer both the pre-k & the life skills class but no one could tell me because each dept is separate & no one knows anything but their own department!! so i couldnt even find out which schools have both classes!! bc the lady is like what neighborhood are you in & i can tell you where you are zoned for, & i am like but that wont help me bc i know what i am zoned for & they dont offer what i need!!!

uggghhhhh!!

What can I do next?

seems like someone ought to know something. try calling the schools and asking. my area school has teachers working now and they've been answering the phone. doesn't hurt to try.

Unfortuantely, these classes are placed in schools where there is room, staff, and a demand. Most districts have this same problem and move these classes when a new school is built. (since the "old" school grows in number of students and space is needed).

The best thing I can tell you is to get in touch with the counselor of your home school. He/she can advise you of what your options are. Many schools in Keller have only skeleton crews at this time, so you may not find out any information. I believe counselors are do back in the office by August 11, but don't quote me on that.

Good luck! :)

I feel your pain!!!! We are also Keller ISD and Gabe was going to North Riverside Elem. last year but since they are building Basswood Elem. they moved the life skills to Basswood Elem. I have Bella who will be going to pre-K at N. Riverside because Basswood does not have a pre-k. So, I'm kind of stuck in the middle like you. The solution we came up with was Gabe will have to ride the bus to Basswood Elem. and I will walk Bella to school in the morning. I wish I had an answer for you, I just wanted you to know I share your pain and I am in the area if you want to chat more. :-) Oh by the way, I wonder if any other mom's are in our boat and if we all go in to complain if they will fix things???
