So What Happened?

Thank you for all the comments I received from everyone. We raised some money by selling some items with his picture on it so we could put towards his Memorial Fund. Thank you again

Help them start a web-site by using "face-book". I think it is free and/or any other web-server that is free. The bank that they are setting the trust fund up with may have ideas as well. I am sorry about you and your friends loss, but I pray for blessings. In His Hands, M. N.

If you or any family member of hers or yours works for a company, you can see if they donate money. Lots of companies make charitable donations or match other people's charitable donations.

Another thing you might consider doing with the money is building a habitat for humanity house in his name. We did this for a friend and it not only helps someone, but is a permenant memorial to the person.

Memorial funds are not usually used for younger sibling college funds, and telling people that may get fewer people to donate to your fund. (it is pretty much asking people to send a child they don't know to college, because his brother died, many people have had siblings die and don't get strangers to pay their college loan bills).

Now, if you want to create a scholarship fund, the way those usually work, is that a scholarship is created, and every year, kids who meet the criteria set out for it (often, where they are from, what type of education they want, if they are a minority, ect) then they apply for it. For example, my parents have a scholarshp fund in their name, they give $500 every year in a sholarship to the school my mother teaches at. It is for any student from a certain location who is majoring in an area my mom is interested in.

Another idea for memorial funds, is that they are donated to a charity that the deceased felt was important. They are a way of keeping that person's name alive and giving to something they cared about, not usually a fundraiser for their family (especially when they were not the finacial support for the family).

Talk to the universities in your area about starting a scholarship fund in his name.

Also, often memorial funds are started after car accidents involving alcohol, and are donated to MADD or some other anti drunk driving campaign/organization.
So if somehting contributed to his accident, a mistake or something, you could donate to the organization that raises awareness about that.
