I was just curious to know other schedules for 1 year olds. I just can't figure my sons sleeping schedule out. He takes a half hour nap in the morning about about 1.5 hour nap in the afternoon. Sometimes he will sleep at night and other times he wont. Especially lately when he wont go to bed until 9-10 instead of 8. So frustrating....

What can I do next?

I noticed with my kids, at that 1 year mark that they didn't need that morning nap anymore. I pushed them through the a.m. and let them have 2 hour nap or so in the afternoon. Then they would be ready for bed between 7 and 8 pm. Good luck!

At 1 both my boys only took an afternoon nap as well. Our schedule used to be that they would get up around 7a.m. , take a nap from 1-4, then go to sleep for the night at 8 or 8:30p.m. This seems like a lot of sleep now, since my kids are older and get a lot less!! I always made the morning active for them so they would get energy out and have fun and I never let my kids sleep past 4pm for their nap either, otherwise bedtime was ruined.

Good Luck,

R.

I recommend you get "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child". It goes through childhood sleep schedules. It tells you how much sleep your child should be getting at different ages. When they should be napping, for how long, when to transition to one nap. It also guides with how to accomplish a better sleep schedule. I found it very helpful when my kids were younger!

I agree with the others. It sounds like he is transitioning to one nap a day in the afternoon. With my son I gave him lunch earlier and put him down for his nap about an hour earlier than normal in the afternoon. Eventually we pushed his nap time to 1:00 pm over time. I bet this will help you out a lot with bedtime at night. A great book for sleep schedules is Healthy sleep habits, happy child by Dr. weisbluth. I have used this book to help with both my kids sleep schedules. My almost three month old has been sleeping through the night since eight weeks old. Good luck!

My son turned one at the end of June. He is up around 7. He has 1 nap that lasts about 2 hours. I usually get him to bed for nap between 11 and 12. and he is in bed for the night with the rest of the kids at 8:00. I don't know how soon he falls asleep, but he is in bed and quiet. The bedtime has been our schedule for a while.

When my kids were that age we started taking away the morning nap...for the first week or two they were crabby in the morning and maybe had lunch a little earlier to go down for the afternoon nap a bit earlier until they got used to it. Daycare and I both usually did lunch about 11:30 (11 if they needed to go down early) and then the kids were down about 12 for about a 2 -2 1/2 hour nap. up between 2 and 3 at the latest and then down about 8. Of course with my work schedule being what it is they also were up between 6 and 7 AM for the day. Another thought is make sure that your son is getting all of his nutrients that he needs before 8pm that way he will not have a "need" to be up later.
