My sister had scarlet fever multiple times growing up. She would develop it every time she got strep, which was about once a year. She is headed to med school in the fall and runs marathons, so no lasting effects on body or mind :)
Hi All.
For those that have been following my recent posts, it turns out my son has scarlet fever. he is in good spirits and energetic :)
i live abroad, and wanted to know of any momma tips from those whose children have had this. We go to the literally 2 best drs whre I am and they apply a minimal approach. Antibiotic. fever medicine if needed. rest at home for a few days. stay cool etc.
anything else I should know? do?
thanks jilly
P.S. I think compared to what I have researched he has a mild case and we caught it quickly because he had the worms and I was afraid his rash was a complication....

Yes one thing you need to know. Your son will need an EKG in about 6 weeks just to make sure that the Scarlet Fever hasn't left any heart damage.
My kids have had this from having strep...round of antibiotics always did the trick...hated to do it but works.
My youngest had it when she was about 8. A complete course of antibiotics, the occasional Tylenol & lots of hugs from her parents and she was just fine.
My daughter had it when she was 3. Antibiotics were all she needed. She recovered fine.
Could not add anything to that. Good advice from your docs.
I don't have experience with it, however from what the other posts have said, it sounds like the local docs hit it on the head. Great to hear that he is happy and active--they always say that the kid's behavior tells us more about how they're doing than the thermometer.
It might be helpful to ask the docs when he will be able to play with other kids--I could see boredom setting in after a few days at home with just his family. Good luck with the recovery!
My oldest son has had it twice, and once he had to have two rounds of antibiotics to knock it out of his system.
My youngest son has had it once.
Both boys are fine, now.
I hope your son recovers quickly!
