i'm scheduled to have my hcg injection tomorrow night, 8/11 and i'm freakin out! anybody else trying artificial insemination w/ hcg shots?? my husband went to the class and says he's go it down pact but i'm still nervous about it!!

I find that I have mini anxiety attacks when I need a shot. So the less time there is to think about it beforehand the better. Less anticipation means less anxiety symptoms. Remember to breathe deeply.
the needle is small. just don't look, you won't even know until it is over
I did IVF cycles and my DH had to give me shots every night for like 2 weeks. I just made sure not to make him mad before hand...LOL.
After I finally did get pregnant I had to have Progesterone shots every day for 10 weeks. That stuff is thick. Luckily I have a nurse friend that did them for me. She knew all the 'spots' so she would rotate the injection site so I didn't have them all in one spot.
Just try to relax that is the biggest key. I know its easier said than done.
Go to your pharmacy and ask them for a numbing cream used on skin before shots are given. You can get it OTC, but have to ask the pharmacist for it.
Rub it on and 15 minutes later, you don't feel a thing...mark the spot you numbed with a marker so your husband knows where to "aim"...and don't look while he gives it!! HUGS, you can do it!!
I see you already survived this, but I thought I'd share my experience anyway. I was an egg donor after college, but in the middle of the whole experience, my boyfriend who we had planned on giving me the shots in the bottom had a motorcycle accident and smashed both his hands. I then recruited everyone available for those shots - I think it was one a day for 5 days or a week, (long time ago). My mom gave me a shot, my brother, I think even my dad. Mom was the worst, afraid to hurt me, bro was the best, just made a target and stabbed it in - bet he had been waiting a long time for that - lol. Good luck!!

I sold injectible medications (insulin and other diabetes treatments for 8 years). Depending on the size of the needle, it will cause more pressure than pain. You can have the area numbed with lidocaine if you're really concerned about it, but the majority of the pain is completely psychological.
It's also going to depend on whether or not it is a subcutaneous (under the skin) or IM (intramuscular) injection. If it's IM, it will be more uncomfortable.Think about children who have to take insulin injections each day. They are much smaller than us and have nerve endings (what make needles hurt) much closer together than we do as adults. Fingers and feet have more nerve endings than do our abdomens, arms, etc.
The closest I've personally come to what you're going to go through is a bone marrow biopsy 11 weeks postpartum with my second child.
Although it's uncomfortable right now, try to find a way to divert your attention and get into a "happy place".
If you're able to successfully conceive a child, the discomfort is completely worth it.

I am not a fan of needles BUT I had to do a few hcg shots while going thru IVF and believe it or not they weren't bad. Tell your husband not to try to be gentle-just do it the way he was shown. Don't get all worked up about it. I tend to over worry about things and then go....oh, that wasn't that bad!
There is a topical cream/ointment, that can be applied first, which 'numbs' the skin... before a needle is put in.
Ask your Doctor for that....
my dad used to get regular iv's put in, for Dialysis... he ALWAYS applied this cream first, beforehand, to numb the skin first.
But I don't know how the hcg shots are, if it is a deep intramuscular shot or just a surface shot....

My expierience has been..I wont look, YOU dont tell me when....JUST DO IT!!!
After countless tatoos and peircings...."dont look, dont tell" always works for me!!!
AND, remember....just take deep breaths....its not as bad as you imagine.
