Symptoms of scabies is pretty easy to see. If the person has a red rash on their hands, that is spread out and is itchy it's likely they have scabies.
Scabies is an infestation with a microscopic critter that is spread by the person scratching.
They scratch an itch then the critter gets on their hands, burrowing in, creating the red rash looking patterns on their hands. Then every single thing they touch the critter can get on. They scratch their toe, toe gets scabies, they touch their kiddo to change their diaper, kiddo has scabies on their hoohaw then they scratch that and have it where ever they touch next....and so forth.
Scabies is hard to get rid of for sure. But unless a doc has diagnosed this and prescribed treatment then it's probably something else.
Since a doc has diagnosed this you need to watch for this red rash on your family's hands. The hand is the 99% way the critters get all over their body and spread to others. If you do see the rash then get that kid to the doc.
My granddaughter had an adverse reaction to Gain fabric softener, only her shirt was in that wash load, so when she went to school she developed a itchy rash on her chest and back. The smart school nurse diagnosed her with scabies and sent her home with a decree that she couldn't come back to school until she had been treated and that would mean she couldn't come back for a week at least....
Well, we went and grabber her up and took her straight to the pediatricians office. The nurse practitioner picked up my girls hands and looked. No rash...no scabies. She looked at her whole body. There were not signs what so ever of scabies. She gave us some cortisone cream to put on it and the rash was gone by the next morning.
We took her back to school and went in the office. They all acted like she had the plague.
We showed them she didn't have any rash at all. They demanded we take her home and we said no, the nurse was wrong and the doc said so. They still had a fit and we had to have the docs office call them and tell them the nurse had no idea what she was talking about that our girl didn't have any of the symptoms at all of scabies.
The hand rash where the critters have infested the skin is the one sure sign of scabies. It can't spread if they're not on the hands so if they don't have a rash they don't have scabies.
Watch your kids for the rash on their hands, if you see it get medication right away. Why treat something that may not happen? Take precautions of course but google what to do, old wives tales often take effort and cost a lot of time and energy and money. Make sure what you're doing is an effective way of prohibiting getting them.
