Oh my gosh you guys. My husband came home from a business trip covered in bug bites and I sent him to the doctor. It's scabies. I am freaking out big time. My daughter and I do not have symptoms yet. Please, I need thorough, thorough, thorough instructions on what I need to do to get rid of these things the first time around. I have two dogs as well.
Please ladies! Help me! My daughter has cheer camp in a week!!!!!!!!
****Update: Please read my "What Happened" post in response to this post. He doesn't have scabies after all...thank God. He has a horrible case of shingles. Thank you Mamasource Ladies! You are all so wonderful!
When my husband came home from the Mediserve clinic, his fever was 102 degrees. He was aching all over and he just laid down on the kitchen floor. He was unbelievably ill. I have never seen him so sick. He had brought home some very expensive and very toxic cream and was about to put it on his body when I examined his rash. I told him that I did not believe it was scabies, and I was afraid that he would do damage to himself if he put permethrin all over his rash. I sent him to the ER. And thank God I did. It was shingles. He's been in the hospital all night and they are administering antibiotics. I feel so awful for him, but I am also so relieved that he didn't use that cream. How is it that wives are sometimes smarter than doctors? It is a shame that we cannot take any action against the physician that misdiagnosed him, but it is a true blessing that I stopped him from doing any further damage to his already painful rash. I am just happy that he is getting the treatment he needs. Thanks Mamasource Ladies!

I've had them. I know they are painful.
Dogs won't get it and they say you can only contract it by:
direct, prolonged, skin-to-skin contact with a person already infested with scabies. Contact generally must be prolonged (a quick handshake or hug will usually not spread infestation). Infestation is easily spread to sexual partners and household members. Infestation may also occur by sharing clothing, towels, and bedding.
Look on the internet- scabies.
LOL, relax. It's scabies, not Ebola. I grew up in Hawaii so I'm used to it. Here's what you do...Wash everything in your house made out of cloth, i.e., clothes, sheets, etc, in HOT water...steam clean the rugs & upholstery. Get the dogs out of the house until they can be treated by the vet, & use the medicine that your husband got from the doctor on the whole family, head to toe, after taking a HOT bath. If there's not enough then ask for a refill. You may need to repeat this process 7 days later. Scabies is just like contagious chiggers. Relax, you'll be fine (& exhausted, lol). Good luck,
C.
