Sandwiches for Halloween Party

I need your opinions please. I made the mistake of telling my daughters 2nd grade classroom moms that I would bring whatever they needed.

Well they assigned me with baloney & cheese sandwiches cut into Halloween shapes.

My question is my daughter has 28 kids in her class (including her) how many sandwiches should I make. I know my daughter does not like baloney and I'm taking a guess that she is not alone. Plus, I'm guessing with a room full of deserts and candy not many kids are going to go for the baloney sandwiches. Also their party is about 2 hours after lunch. I'm so afraid if I make all 28 sandwiches, my daughter will be bringing them back home and we are not a baloney sandwich family. Plus she goes to an after school program and I'm not sure they will be able to refrigerate them for her until I get out of work.

How many sandwiches would you make? (Keep in mind I have to cut them into Halloween shapes.)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Oh believe me next year I am not going to say "whatever you need". I only did that this year because last year my daughter came home with almost all of her baked goods...as they had an over abundance of them. So I thought I'd be better off just offering something they thought they really needed. Never in a million years would have guessed, baloney sandwiches. Ah well...

Well the party has room mothers in charge of it, not their teacher. And all that was sent home was a piece of paper with my daughters name and what they wanted her to bring. So, I'm not sure if I can change it up or not. But maybe I will do as some of you suggested and make some turkey or cheese ones too.

12 - 14.
Cut them in 4s on the angle and call them 'candy corn'.
Cut them with a circle, cut that in half and call them 'half moons'.

1) maybe ask if you can do turkey and cheese instead (if that is more palatable - bologna is kinda nasty).

Don't worry about Halloween shapes - if you like pimento cheese (again, not eveyone's favorite) - you can make turkey (bologna - whatever) sandwiched with pimento cheese spread. Get a jar of sliced pimentos.

Make the sandwiches and instead of cutting them, use a glass use like a cookie cutter to cut the sandwiches into circles. Use the sliced pimentos to make ''pumpkin faces" on the tops). Make 28 sandwiches - I'm teachers might eat what the kids won't.

Boy, I'd edit my phrase for whatever you need when the next party rolls around.

I am one to provide whatever they need but even as a teacher for over 10 yrs (subbing) and as a volunteer mom over 17 yrs, I've never heard of a request like that.

Like you, I am sure ALL kids will not want bologna. I like the idea of making a pumpkin face with pimento. I might ask the teacher is cheese sandwiches might also be thrown into the mix for those who don't want bologna. We both agree that 2 hrs after lunch, the children will most lokely go for the sugary snacks vs a sandwich.

I'm for asking the teacher for some guidance on this one and she what SHE wants you to bring in. Sometimes the room moms take over and dictate a little too much.

It is very nice of you to do this for her class!

How about just making baloney or some other lunch meat and cheese cutouts on ritz crackers? Don't put a top on it, just have the cracker open faced so they can see the shapes. Put some with just cheese and some with baloney and cheese. I wouldn't even ask...just make it that way and say you thought the kids would like it on crackers rather than bread.

Maybe only make 15-17 sandwiches, and cut each sandwhich into two shapes. (that way you will have 30 little sandwiches) Make some of the sandwiches just bologna, and some just cheese for those who might not like one or the other. I'm guessing you'll be using cookie cutters for the shapes? How old are the kids? My sons grade five class would eat 28 sandwiches, but the kindergarteners probably wouldn't.

Eeeeew. Gross. Baloney!! Shudder.

I'd call and double check that no one else is being DECENT sammies and bring 50/50.

Half the cursed and forbidden by god sammies (SO not kosher or halal), and half any other kind of non-pork lunch meat... And then some veggie Sammie's tacked on as extra for vegetarian kids.

I would make turkey and cheese or ham and cheese (baloney is gross to our entire family too!) and I would assume each sandwich would be for 4 kids (use mini cookie cutters). OR cut into triangles (4 again) and call them witches hats.

With smaller cookie cutters you should be able to get two shapes per sandwich, so I would make one loaf of breads worth, but I would do ham and cheese rather then baloney if it was me, ham is just more widely liked.

I would do half with balogna sandwiches, and half with turkey sandwiches. I would make about 5 extra just in case.
A pumpkin shape will be easy since it's just round. :-) As someone else suggested, you can use olives for the eyes and perhaps shaves of carrots for the mouth. :-)

I would get cookie cutters that you can cut two out of each sandwich and make 14. That way there is technically one a piece if they want them. Or If you can get three out of each sandwich make 10 actual sandwiches.

I would make some turkey & cheese.

Some plain turkey (or put the cheese & they can pick it out).

Maybe some ham & cheese.

You can make the sandwiches then use a metal cookie cutter in the
shape of a bat or pumpkin (etc) to cut them. Don't worry if they don't
look good or stay.
