So Daddy and I had this great idea to put a sandbox on the patio for our kids to play in at home. What did not occur to me during planning was clean up. I am forever sweeping, hosing, vaccuming sand up from everything and everywhere. I have a swivel sweeper that seems to work pretty well. But I am wondering if any moms out there have any tricks up their sleeves for keeping sand in the sandbox or at least keeping more outside than inside?

Now that is why we got rid of our sandbox. The only suggestion is to make sure they remove their shoes before coming back in the house. "Dust off and empty out all pockets and shoes"

good luck

Hi T.,

I would get rid of the sand and buy small, smooth pebble-sized rock instead. I did this under my sons' play structure (now a trampoline, as they are older) and it's great. I was so happy with it, I did my whole backyard in it. Everyone thought I was nuts until they saw how little got tracked in, how easy it was on shoes, doggie paws, kitty paws, etc.

Good luck, S. F.

How about placing a large tarp (the kind used for camping) under the sandbox, then just shaking it out when they're done playing in that area?

I'd move the sandbox further out into the yard-any over flow will end up in the yard.
