My kids wore Robeez because barefoot is best for new walkers and the soft leather soles protected the foot.
Anyone put their young toddler in saltwater sandals as a first pair of walking shoes? They are so darn cute but am not sure they would make a comfortable first pair for our new walker.
My instincts were telling me to stick with Robeez or Stride Rite...or barefoot! Thanks!

we did barefoot or good stride right shoes. my first had issues with pronated-ness, my second's feet were fine, but in both cases we wanted to make sure that we weren't messing anything up as they took their first steps into the world.
stride right shoes weren't cheap, and there were way cuter and cheaper shoes available, but walking's a big deal. can you just get the saltwater sandals to use as an occasional cute thing, but put him in something sturdier most of the time?

I always went with 'barefoot is best'.
Our son was mostly barefoot until he was playing outside a lot and THEN shoes/sandals he wore all the time.
Yup - Stride Rite and Robeez (great for my wide footed little ones) - were the ones we went for.
We love those sandals, but didn't start using them until she was about 2 and walking well. My SIL had her kiddos in them early on, but more for photo ops and special occasions, than an every day kind of shoe.
They are fashionable, but I also went with Stride Right and Robeeze for the 1st years for my children. I always considered something closed toe to be best.
Cute but I always went with stride rite for the first year of walking. The flexible soles made it easier to walk when barefoot was not an option. If you are going the saltwater sandals route make sure the soles are easily flexed and the leather is soft. Those little feet need a little tlc.
Hello
not as a toddler but as an adult :) who believes that FLAT wide toeboxes for toes to splay are VERY important... I also know someone who has their toddler in freshlypicked moccasins, which like the sandals are flat and actually allows the foot more stability because unlike what we may have read about the foot, it's VERY strong and if allowed to do its job and use all three arches (yes there are three) then most people do well in a flat..
on NWfootankle.com (a foot clinic) in Portland, OR.. check out their short video on choosing a proper shoe for one's child.. I found it very helpful and instructional as to why we want our children's feet to have room , which many shoes don't allow for.. I only wish I found this doctor years before my foot problems began...what I did learn if anything is that shoes are a HUGE contributing factor as to why we have foot problems and it starts young with bad shoes... check out the videos, you ll love em..
good luck
I always put the kids in good sturdy shoes. I don't know what saltwater sandals are but if they don't give good ankle support the kiddo could get stressed out joints.
