Hi C.,
I found great buddies at a library storytime. The kids get exposed to books and you get a social outlet. It's free, unless you live in unincorporated somewhere. Highly reccommend this option.

I am loving that the weather is starting to stay nice and am enjoying my daytime walks with my son. However, I am noticing that the lack of adult conversation has resulted in me baby-talking to my husband. Anyone know of any groups locally?

check out PWC - www.parentswhocare.org. I believe they're based in Elk Grove Village
Meetup.com is a great way to meet people. The mom's group in my neighborhood has been a lifesaver for me. Check it out and have a great summer.
In Oak Park, we have something called The Oak Park Women's Guild which is a not-for-profit group, secular (non-religious), of women - most, but not all, are moms- who meet twice a month. They have speakers, do service projects for local charities, and socialize with each other (yes, other adults!). There is child care on site. I learned to belly dance, some self-defense, heard a doc come and talk about depression and a local kids' musician give us a concert and talk about the creative process to name a few of the speakers. It was fun.
Perhaps your town or village has something similar? Or, certainly come out this way! I am not involved in it anymore since it meets during the workday, and I work. But, it was really cool when I was a new mom and home solo.
You could google, "Women's group" + your town and see what turns up.
