Hi! I'm taking my daughter to Florida for the first time in March and i'm trying to find a safe, natural sunscreen to put on her. I'm always afraid of all the chemicals that get put into the lotions.

What can I do next?

California Baby makes a sunscreen and that is the only sunscreen that I trust for my little one. It was voted safest sunscreen for babies over and over again by numerous companies. Target carries California baby products, or you can buy online.

We use Badger, it's all natural. Here is a website that will help you determine what is safe or not. Unfortunately, there are some products that claim to be natural and safe, yet still have potential harm. I use this site for all skin products, it's great. At 7 months, get her a nice brimmed hat, and if you are going swimming, a swim shirt with SPF. The more she is covered by clothes, the less you'll need screen. I know, not exactly cute and fun in the sun looking, but she will be protected. Plus, in March it may still be a little on the cool side. Well, us Floridians think so! :) Have fun and enjoy your time here in FL!!

We use California Baby natural sunscreen. It is a non chemical, ultra sensitive sunscreen.

Here's the link to it on Diapers.com, but most Target Stores also carry it.

I LOVE Badger sunscreen! You can buy it at Whole Foods or off of Amazon.com (many small natural stores and health stores carry it, too). It's the most highly rated sunscreen by the Environmental Working Group, very similar to California Baby but not quite so pricey. They sell a face-stick as well as regular lotion. Our whole family used it this past summer when out hiking or playing at the pool, and we didn't get a single burn among us. Remember, the key to ANY suncreen (natural or not) is to reapply it regularly. Have fun in Florida!

I've heard good things about Blue Lizard, but I don't know what the ingredients are or how natural it is. If you want to avoid the chemicals, use zinc cream.

I use Coppertonne Water Babies. Its PABA free and is safe on sensitive skin (my son has baby eczema and it didn't bother him). I also had him out in the pool at the beach on a 100 degree day with no sun burn effects. I love this product and the price is right!

I remember asking my pediatrician this question around the same age and his response to me was "Why is he going to be in the sun for that long?" Seriously, he suggested keeping the baby completely covered (including a hat and sun glasses) b/c none of the lotions are completely safe and all involve chemicals. My parents have a large beach umbrella and that's where our baby hung-out when we were outside.

We have used the Coppertone for Babies from the start with good results. Whatever you decide, test it on a small patch of skin several days before you intend to use it just in case!

We LOVE Blue Lizard. It's made in Australia where they are fanatic about sun protection. It's mostly zinc oxide. Neither of my kids nor myself have ever gotten a sunburn while wearing it, and we're incredibly fair skinned.

Remember, whatever you chose, a sunburn has been proven to be far more dangerous than the sunscreen has, so if she's "pinking up" - switch!

I use Jane Iredale Powder-Me Dry Sunscreen SPF 30 for my son starting from when he was about 6 months. You can Google it to find someone in your area who sells it. It is a powder that you apply with a sponge applicator and it worked really well for us. It contains titanium dioxide and natural clay, so it is safe for your baby, and is a physical block rather than a chemical sunscreen.
Have a great trip!
