I have tried 3 different organic repellents, I have tried rubbing dryer sheets on my children, I have tried Skin-so-soft and NOTHING! NOTHING! is repelling these mosquitos! With West Nile virus so prevalent these days, I have to come up with SOMETHING for my 3 year old and my 5 year old to use! My daughter was bitten walking from the car to the house yesterday! FRUSTRATING!

What can I do next?

Have you tried California Baby Citronella Bug Spray? I found that we have to spray a LOT on for it to work, but it's safe and the smell isn't obnoxious. Good luck!

I am a magnet for mosquitos and the only thing that works for me is Badger Anti-Bug Balm. They also have it in a new spray form that I haven't tried yet. This stuff works great and it's safe!

I use the californial baby stuff and it works on us. I usually get eaten alive but it seems to work for me and my kids. However, if i tried many many things, and nothing worked, I wouldn't be afraid to use something with a low amout of DEET in it. I know its not ideal, but at some point the risks of West Nile, not to mention the annoyance of being bitten all the time, have got to out weigh any risk there could be to using DEET on occasion. There are some that have a lower amount, like less than 4%. If nothing works, I'm not sure what other choices you have.

Repel Lemon Eucalyptus Insect Repellent...this is what I use and it works great. You smell like essential oils which is nice...but I always shower it off before bedtime.

Woodapple Farms' Camping Buddy essential oil stick works very well for my daughter & I, and it contains no DEET or harmful chemicals. It's totally natural & inexpensive ($4 + shipping). It has saved us from the mosquito bite welts we used to get while visiting my in-laws & sister-in-law on the south shore! (Long Island's south shore area is notorious for having a mosquito problem.) (woodapplefarms.com is the website. They make awesome natural goat's milk soaps, too!

We use this http://www.amazon.com/All-Terrain-DEET-Free-Repellent-Pac...

My son is a freaking magnet fro mosquitoes, and this stuff works great. I do recommend putting one layer on, then reapplying another a few minutes later. That seems to be the most effective way to use this. (For us, anyway.)

You may not like it but we use those Off Clip-ons. Works great for us especially my oldest who for some reason is the tastiest to the mosquitos out of all of us. I'm sure it's spraying chemicals into the air and then we are breathing it in but with West Nile going around I'm going to take my chances. I started using it when we lived in Central America and we had Dengue Fever going around and I'd rather be alive then get that.

Rubbing a little raw onion on pulse points.
Vinegar and water
Spraying a beer and water mix around your yard
I once tried fresh parsley chopped in a blender with cidar vinegar and water and sprayed it around our campsite. We didnt have ONE mosquito! It was amazing! A little stinky, but amazing lol

I've found that vinegar and water spray works pretty well if you aren't in the deep grass and bushes of the yard for too long. The smell fades as it dries--it's cheap to try in any case! I know your pain--we get bitten to and from the car too, and a few always get in for the ride. I can deal with the heat, but I HATE the mosquitos.
