Safe Carseats

I was curious as to what infant seats and convertible carseats are being used. I currently received an e-mail from Consumer Reports that they should recall the infant carrier that I have, but won't. It failed every test done. Needless to say, I am shopping for a new one! I have a 4 month old who weighs 12 pounds and am debating between getting another carrier or just putting her in a convertible car seat for her size. Any input would be great. Thanks

What can I do next?

Hi A.,

This is a video (very touching) that changed my mind on car seats forever! It is also very helpful with brand names - I always feel so ignorant on how much kids should weigh and what kind of carseat I need but not anymore after watching this. I think everyone that has a baby, knows anyone with a baby should watch this. Good luck!

Hi A.,

Remember, the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administations conductions crash testing on safety seats to determine it they meet the National Standard. The seats in question have not been recalled. The best thing for you to do is contact a local organization that has a Child Passenger Safety Technician on staff to help point you in the right direction. Cook Children's has staff the teaches parents the correct installation and use of car seats. Call ###-###-#### and leave a message and someone will get back to you. It may take a couple of days.

I have the Britax Roundabout and love it. All of the Britax seats have excellent safety ratings..you can check it out for yourself ____@____.com/CPS/CSSRating/Index.cfm
My husband has the larger Britax in his car,and it is a bit bulky and hard to deal with. I changed seats about the time my baby girl was close to 20 pounds, however these seats can accomodate 5-40pds...some even 60pds(like my husbands carseat), however your little one would get lost in that one. They are a little on the pricey side, however I decided that I could not actually put a price tag on my baby's safety.
Hope this helps!

Can you let me know what kind you have that should be recalled? I am wondering if we might have it. We have a 3 month big boy who weighs 15 lbs!

I have the britax seat for my twins. I know it is expensive.... but the model I have will stay with them until they are 65 pounds!!! They are profiled on the right start web site.

When I did my research, they were rated very high on the safety lists. Also, I remember I wanted to kick myself because I had bought 2 peg perego infant seats at @260 a piece and then, just one year later I was buying a seat they could have used from day one. I did, however like being able to take a sleeping baby from the car to the house without having to wake them up.
Good luck!!

We had to get a convertable car seat when my son was that age because he was so tall. We got the Evenflo Titan, and we love it. We researched a lot, and it was one of the top in Consumer Reports. We liked it so much, that we got another one for my husband's truck. It's a little pricy, but I think it's very well worth it. Another one that we looked at that scored very high on CR was the Evenflo Tribute. They are almost exactly the same, but that one had a weird harness release that we couldn't figure out. Good luck!

I was pleased as punch to see that the carseat we just bought was at the top of the list! We have the Graco snugride with EPS and have had no problems with it. It holds up to 30 pounds which is good for our huge boy! The only reason I would get another infant carrier is that if your daughter falls asleep in the car, and you want her to stay asleep, taking the carrier out is easier. Of course, you will be spending $140 for a carseat now, and then more for the bigger one, but I must say I would still do the carrier. If you want to go to a movie or into a restaurant, it will be a while before she can sit in a high chair or anything else. I am not sure if it works with all strollers, so you might want to look into that, but otherwise, it could work. Best of luck! ~A.~

We have the Britax Marathon seat and love it. My daughter is 10 months old and 16lbs and she fits great in it. It is very soft, does not absorb heat in the summer or get cool in the winter, and they have the best safety ratings. I asked the people at Babies R Us about them and he said the reason they have the highest saftey ratings is because they are made to pass European laws which are much more strict on safety than here in the US. They are a little pricey but well worth it, not to mention they work up to 60lbs (maybe more I don't remember all the details) so this will be your babies last car seat. I could not find any price difference from store to store so I ordered on www.target.com and then got a coupon from dealcoupon.com which save me 10%. Good luck

This is all over the news right now. Only 2 out of 12 passed. If you research maybe you can find what the 2 are. Good Luck.
