i bought the leapfrog when she was 2. i wasnt super inpressed, but she loved it and it was great for car and plane rides and we were surprised at how quickly she learned from it. colors, shapes, ext. but it took a bath, so i am looking to upgrade.

i have noticed about a $50 difference in this and last years models of the leap pad. can anyone tell me if the difference between the two is worth the extra cash??

i had concidered the kindle fire, but isnt it still like $200? seams a little pricey for a 3 year old. and we dont have wifi in the house. Besides, I dont even have one yet.....

What can I do next?

How old is she now? I'd honestly say skip the leapster and go for a Kindle Fire or iPad Mini or something she can grow with. My niece is 3 and always goes for my kids Kindle Fire's and leaves her leap pad tablet looking thing alone. My kids got the Fires at 4, 6, and 8. That's just my two cents...I'd go for something that will grow with her more. There are the same kind of games on Amazon and iTunes.

ETA: They are pricey, but very worth it. And I don't have one either :). You don't NEED wi-fi. There are tons of games that don't require wi-fi at all. My kids play them on the road all the time and we don't have it on the road. I say it is very much worth the extra money because it will be well used for years, versus maybe a year or two our of a leap pad...just my two cents.

It has more memory and a faster processor and another camera. My son has a LP 1 and I really want to upgrade to the LP2...but can't justify the cost.

Honestly, I wouldn't get either of them.

I'd go for a Kindle Fire.

You may want to check game compatibility. We were looking at a leapster 2 recently, but they no longer make games. Everything is still available, but not much online support etc. Ended up returning because it did not work well and our son is a little young so we are just going to see what is current at the time. Leapfrog.com might let you compare side to side too. I know the leap pad 2 games can also be played on the newer leapsters.

Quick Google search to compare. The two has two cametas, front and back, more memory, can use a recharger and is faster.
