I have a large stewing pot. There is a spot where the enamel has chipped off and it is rusty. Can I just scrape the rust off and use it?

What can I do next?

i would defintely not use that kettle. Your food will absorb that rust, especially when it's heated!

NO, please DO just toss it or use it as a planter! Not worth the risks.

don't know if this will work, but try heating some coke to lightly boiling and see if it will clean it up, I know it works for getting the black gook off that won't scrub off.

Hi B.! I hate to say it but if the enamel is chipped I would just throw it away. The enamel is a protective barrier covering what is probably aluminum which is very unsafe to cook with. If that barrier is removed, then aluminum will be leaching into your food.
If you don't want to throw it, let your kids use it in the sandbox! You could also use it as a pot to plant herbs in.

I totally agree...throw it away! It isn't worth your health.

Hi-
If the rust is in the interior of the pot, it is not safe to cook with it anymore. It will leach all kinds of things including alumimum, maybe lead, etc when heated. Best to chuck it and get a new one.
