My poor little guy (1 yr old) has a terrible runny nose . Yellow mucousy, a little bit bloody too. He is also getting 4 molar teeth in at the same time. Needless to say he is pretty miserable. Does anyone have a good remedy to get my little one some relief?

Hey A. ...im kim have worked in dental/medical 19+ years... We have 7 kids... and 4 still home...

Teeth: the natural teething tablets you get in the store really do help... even when your older and getting perm. teeth.. Ibprouphin works better for teeth pain and you can combine tylenol and ibprouphin together and works great..!!! just give the same amounts as said on the package just together...

As for his nose saline solution is the best.. though i found the ones in the areosol cans works best...follow the instructions... and apply aloe gel if it gets tender and raw.. and you can put in the nose also. apply with q-tip... Hope works great... if you have any concerns and do not have dental insurance go to this clinic they take uninsured on a sliding fee scale... ###-###-#### Multhnomah County Health Dept. SE Dental Clinic... Hope it helps.. warm or cold compress on the face helps. Depends what the child prefers.... Oh and teething makes them feel horrible...Allergies id what tell he got his teeth in.. and dairy products will make his mucus thicker and harder to deal with..Jello is awesome even as drink...

Blessed Be
K.

Yellow mucous w/ blood can indicate some type of sinus infection (normally a runny nose is clear or whitish mucous) I would suggest a trip to the pediatricin of that is possible. My daughter also gets a runny nose with teething, but not yellow.

Ibuprofin is best for teething pain since it is an anti-inflamitory, though others say Tylenol (acetominifen) works better on their baby. I'd try both and see which one works best for you.

Sounds like he has a allergy as well as teething. Ask his doctor what to give him. Don't hive him as much milk until his nose dries up some. I put some Vicks baby vapor on my sons chest at night and used a humidifier.
I still use these things for my son's allergies.
wish you luck

hi A.,

my favorite product is Viburcol from Heel company. it is a homeopathic liquid that works wonders on teethers, irritable babies and cold care also. you can order it from any whole foods market. most of them don't normally stock it, but it can be specially ordered. you can probably get it on line faster too. all natural, no side effects, perfect. i've used the teething tablets and they were great for the first teeth, but it seemed my little girl needed baby mortin or tylenol for the molars.

generally, a yellow mucus indicates an infection so maybe a trip to the doc is a good idea. blood is pretty indicative of dryness. i personally don't recommend petroleum jelly, simply because of its source. i love vitamin E oil. you can either used the soft gel pills and prick a hole in it then apply it to a cotton swab to get it into the nostril, or you can just get a bottle of the oil itself and apply it the same way. it's a great moisturizer to keep around.

one last thing, both of my kids live to eat frozen peas when they are teething. it feels great on their gums and gets a little food into them at the same time, which i know can be challenging at this time.

i hope something here helps. best of luck!

Two things that may help. The first is saline nose spray and the second is to use a Q-Tip to coat the nostrils with petroleum jelly. (aka Vaseline) The mucous could be an infection and the blood could be from the nasal lining being irritated.
The petroleum jelly also works for dry nasal passages in winter and due to colds and seasonal allergies and also helps prevent bloody noses from thin nasal lining.

Best wishes to you.
