Have any of you ever ran, or are you currently a member? How did you prepare for your campaign? How did you get your name out there? Any tips?

What can I do next?

But S., you're such a NICE girl, why would you want to do a thing like that?

First of all you need to be going to the meetings so you can see how it works. Are they a formally run board? Do they tend to be rather lax and not so set on board rules? Are they a close knit group that doesn't allow much input? Do they argue a lot and really want so new blood?

Once you are actively going to the meetings you'll have a better understanding of how this particular one is mananged.

When I was the President of our local Habitat it was run by the rules of conduct for boards. With the full motions, seconds, and all in favor, all those opposed, etc...we had minutes for members (none for non-members due to confidentiality),old business, discussion, new business, discussion, then if there was nothing else we opened the doors so that if someone wanted to join us that was not a member they could. At this point NO confidential information was shared. We had home owners, prospective owners, whole families, community clergy, etc...that would occasionally come in to present us with an opportunity or something.

If someone wanted to be on our board then it was always someone we knew by name and because then had been attending the monthly meetings and voicing something.

I think that there is a set way to do this school board. You might just need to call the school main office and ask someone there.

Once you're actively involved in both the school board & the PTO, your name will be recognizable & that makes your campaign more accessible.

Gotta walk the walk, not just talk the talk. :)
