Hi Again!
I guess I have a few questions this week! My 7 month old son has just started crawling!! He crawls on his knees and elbows, to adorable! Because of this he has rug burns on his knees and elbows. Does anyone have any ideas on how to treat rug burns and is there a way to get rid of the redness? Is there a way to prevent them or are we stuck with red knees until he walks?! Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you to everyone who responded! I have purchased all the moisturizers suggested, and it seems to be getting better! Of course, he is crawling much faster now and I'm putting it on almost as fast as he gets away! Thanks again!

We put aquafor (sp) on my sons knees when he was crawling around everywhere. We still use it on his little ezcema spots and they go away real quick. He is now 3 and he likes to chew on his shirts which I think the laundry soap makes him break out on his chin and the aquafor (once again the spelling may be wrong) helps it dramatically.

Yeah you're pretty much stuck with them for a while, but he will get used to it more and also make sure to put a lotion or a cream like eucerin on them so his skin doesn't get too dried out.

long pants and shirts, thick ones, or knee and elbow pads.

The rug burns will continue to happen at least until he builds some calluses. My dd would get them on her toes when I didn't have socks on her but keeping socks on avoided the problem. So you could try putting something over them if your really worried other than that it will continue to happen until he forms calluses or until he walks whatever comes first. Something that I have learned though is that Lasinoh lanolin cream works great for moisterizing and healing on a baby and it is absolutley harmless to the baby.

We used Gentle Naturals Eczema Cream. It soothes and doesn't burn. It heals amazingly fast, too. We often saw rug burn disappear overnight if we treated it the first day. You probably can't prevent them, but it'll help. You can get it in the baby isle. GL! Have fun keeping up!
