My little girl started getting a rash on her tummy and back Thursday evening. The rash continued to get a little worse on Friday and then over the weekend has spread all the way to her face and down to her toes. We took her to the doctor on Saturday and they told us that it was Roseola and the rash typically last 2-3 days. Her rash doesn't seem to be clearing up at all and her face looks like a poor teenager going through puberty!! Has anyone had experience with Roseola and can give me more insight into how long this rash will last? Thanks!
Roseola lasts more like 2-3 weeks. My boys got it after their MMR shot. Try to keep her out of direct sunlight and put lots of non-allergen lotion on her body, and that will help it a lot. My oldest still has little bumps under his skin from this rash. Aveeno works really well.
My daughter had roseola at about 7 months old I think. She was really little. It first started with an unexplainable fever getting as high as 104! Very scary! But had NO other symptoms of being sick. The fever lasted about 4 days I think. Once the fever broke, then came the rash. And that lasted a couple more days, 2-3. And then it slowly faded away. Her face was the last part of her body for the rash to fade from. Not a fun thing to go through, it's very hard to keep the fever in control!

Yeah... I had the same experience as the other responder. The fever and actual 'sickness' came first, followed by the rash. My daughter's rash faded pretty slowly but, rest assured, it doesn't bother them and will eventually go away completely.
My daughter had Roseola when she tuned 1. She had a high fever for about 24 hours before the rash. I think it took about 4 days to clear, but she seemed cheerful.

Are they sure it is roseola? Every case I've heard of involves a high temp before the rash. When my son had roseola a couple years ago, he had a high fever (as high as 105) for about 5 or 6 days then the rash broke out. It only lasted a few days.
If she didn't have a fever before hand, I'd say it wasn't roseola. Have you looked into food allergies? We're pretty sure my 6 month old son has an allergy to the proteins in milk - he has had a rash for over two months now (and was just fine before that - it came on very suddenly) with everything being changed - detergent, soaps, lotions. I finally cut milk out of my diet (I'm breastfeeding), and a few weeks later he was doing great. Then, I ate some frozen yogurt (at least, they said it was frozen yogurt at the ice cream shop) and the next day he looked horrible again. I've refrained from milk again and his skin is already starting to clear up.
If the rash doesn't go away, you might want to look into some allergy testing, not only for foods, but for other chemicals in detergents and lotions too. Good luck.
Usually Roseola presents with a fever that seems unexplainable until a day or two later when the rash starts on the torso and extends to the rest of the body. Sometimes it comes with cold symptoms like a runny nose. The rash typically goes away within 72 hours.
Any chance you used a new soap, detergent, added in a new food? There are so many things that can cause a rash:(
My son was diagnosed with Roseola around the time he turned 1 (he's 18 mos now) Out of the blue he had a fever of 104 and rising. We took him to the ER because we were out of town and they first told us it was the flu. A few days of the very high fever going up and down, then we thought he was better--until he broke out in the rash. That's when our ped knew it was Roseola. The fever and rash never overlap and Roseola is always characterized by the scary high fevers. The rash lasted for about 3 days. He wasn't itchy, just very uncomfortable and it was extremely hard for him to sleep.
My son got this many times when he was younger (he's 6 now). He hasn't gotten this in a few years, so I can't remember for sure, but I would say it probably went away in less than a week.
What I do remember is that our pediatrician told us this type of breakout is one way a body reacts to the same virus that causes strep throat - some kids get strep and some just get the roseola rash. So, the duration of the rash would be consistent with the amount of time it would take for the virus to work its way through my son's body.
But, the rash shouldn't be itchy or uncomfortable, so if her rash turns into something like that I'd take her back for another exam.
