Roper Downtown vs St Francis

Hello M.. I had my daughter at St Francis. They were really nice and considerate. I moved to SC when I was pregnant and had my daughter after being here like 3 months. I did not know much about the area but I am happy where I had her. The security man cracked me up. I was still laughing while having contractions and he couldn't understand why. Then he told me (using his medical schooling and background hahaha) that I shouldnt be walking so he had me sit down and wait for him to go get a wheel chair to push me to the other side of the hospital. As far as breastfeeding part goes. I didnt try right way. The took my baby but it more because I was not in the position to do it. The gave me my baby or more like sit her on me and I remember looking at her and then at the nurse with look like get this thing off of me. (yeah there was not an instant bond for me) Yet when they moved me to the recovery room the bf nurse came in and tried to help me try it. She came several times real nice about it. Hope this helps.

I can't offer anything on Roper other than I haven't heard anything negative about them. As far as breastfeeding asap, absolutly! The bond with bf will only be stronger if done right away. Please remember that this is YOUR baby and YOU have the right to say what he/she does and/or gets. So many people get wrapped up in the protocol. You should always ask questions, you are speaking for the baby. The baby does not have to leave you if you dont want him/her to (assuming no problems). Just be stern with what you want for your child and have at least one other person in the room that knows your wishes. I dont know your wishes but for me I was all natural and my baby didnt recieve anything. The staff was totally supportive bc they had my birth plan and knew exactly what was wanted. I had my second son at St.Francis and my third child (daughter) @ Roper dt. The only differnce was that St.Francis is newer. The nurses were great .The took great care of me. I had a c-setion .I had gone in on a Friday so I had to weekend nurses. Their was one nurses I will never forget. Her name is Suzy and she was the charge nurse.She was the best nurses I have never had.Now don't get me wrong I can give you more names of the nurses I had them 2 days that were great also.Suzy just had this special way about her.Dianna was great too.As for the bf-ing I didn't do that,but they listen to everthing you wanted.So I'm sure that they will do what you ask of them. I had a horrible experience delivering at St. Francis--they turned a routine delivery and uncomplicated pregnancy into a nightmare, practically killed me, and had my daughter sent to MUSC for 80k worth of tests she didn't need (perfectly healthy then and now at 18 months old), so I'd say Roper's the way to go! Most people I know have had great experiences at both hospitals, so i think i just got unlucky. I don't mean to scare you--just make sure you or a family member is paying attention to what everyone gives you, your baby, etc. Drs and nurses are human too--I learned that the hard way.
