Roomba?!?! - Chesterfield,MO

Have any of you moms tried the Roomba? I have carpet and I saw the Roomba the other day at Costco, I was about to get it but was afraid that it doesn't work. It costs too much for it not to work in the end. So I wanted to know if you ladies have tried it on carpet.

What can I do next?

We had one for floors. We loved it. The only thing we didn't like was the battery got bad after about a year. We had to get a new battery. It was an expensive battery, half the cost of the thing (I think). It seemed like the original battery lasted longest, the 2nd one kept running out of charge in the middle of vacuuming (we have an open floor plan, huge room).

They work great, but if I was to get one, I'd get the pet model or an industrial strength one, the best one, not the cheapest one. And I'd only use it on our wood floors downstairs. My kid leaves too many small things out and our floor plan upstairs where it's carpeted is too narrow, weird and difficult.

Roomba used to be our sole vacuum cleaner. We loved it! We would set it's timer to come on and vacuum our living room, dining room and kitchen during early morning hours before we were all awake. It was great to come downstairs in the morning to a freshly vacuumed room. We also would set it to vacuum in one bedroom at a time. It goes under beds and does a great job. Also picks up kitty litter with no issues. Roomba, is a great investment and mother's helper (provided the toys are cleaned up :). Our Roomba did not survive when our house was zapped by lightening, but it was a perfect vacuum.

I have 2, our first one was the expensive one and works great, but the second one we just got the cheap one and now we rarely use it - it has a tendency to get stuck on something and then will actually scuff the carpet sometimes. I totally recommend it, but spend a little more and get the better one, the cheap one (still not cheap!) is just a waste of money.

I haven't tried it on carpet, but I have a friend who uses hers on carpet. My experience is that Roomba ROCKS! Four of us use them and we all love them! Do NOT get the basic, cheapest model though -it doesn't do a good job. Not sure which one is at Costco right now, but Costco is great when it comes to returns. If you get it and don't like it -they'll take it back.

My girl friend has a roomba and loooves it. She still brings out the big vacuum, but for the every day scraps of stuff that are on the carpet, she uses it daily. She ESPECIALLY loves it for the hardwood floor (they have 2 dogs). My 1 year old loves chasing it ;) They also have the roomba for outside (picks up acorns on the deck) and the pool bot made by roomba :)

I have one and LOVE it!!! I use it mainly for the bedrooms which are all carpet. Now if they could make one that picks up toys before it vacuums that would be heaven!

my sis-in-law has one and they love it. They have half carpet, half laminate hardwood flooring on the first floor which is where they mainly use it and it works well for both. It will however get tangled in throw rugs and have to put the blocks near wires to keep it away from them but it works great. It goes under couches and detects wherever there is dirt and will keep going over that spot.

We watched it at Christmas dinner. There was dried pumpkin pie on the kitchen floor and it kept going back to that spot until it got that spot clean which it did eventually get that spot up. That was impressive. We figured it would have to be mopped to get the dried stuff off. Not sure how well it would do on a carpet stain though and when it decides to give up on a stain but we were very impressed with the hardwood floor and all the dirt it got up after a big Christmas dinner.

They didn't get the cheapest model, got the middle range one but if you have pets you should get the pet model. Also get the 2 or 3 year extended warranty to get the battery replaced. The batteries are very expensive.
