Hi everyone!

I'm looking for a quick romantic get-a-way. We just got back from vacation last week, and we'll be gone again for a week in October. What I'd like to do is get away for a couple of days at the end of August. Our anniversary is August 30th, and I'd like to go somewhere relatively close for just a couple of nights. Have any of you taken a romantic retreat that you just loved, but didn't leave out of the state? I'd really like to hear your ideas and suggestions!

Thanks so much!!

So What Happened?

Thanks Megan and L. (love your name - smile). I appreciate both of you responding.

Starved Rock is booked on the days I wanted. So unfortunately that's a no go. And the Sybaris costs a lot just to stay in a room with no other "activities" (and then there's that membership fee). I did check out the Essence suites which is similar to the Sybaris, but there again - no other "activities". :)

I have no clue what we're going to do. Hopefully my husband has something up his sleeve.

Thanks again ladies!!

Hi L.-
I love staying at the lodge at Starved Rock. THey have an olympic sized pool, hot tub, and awesome restaurant. Close enough to home and fun for two.

Good luck! L. K

Hi Lynn!

I second the recommendation for Galena! My husband and I have been there a few times for a quiet, romantic getaway and really enjoyed ourselves ... it's the perfect weekend getaway!

If you're looking for someplace closer have you checked out Lake Geneva or even a weekend package at Pheasant Run in St Charles?

I've not been, but have friends who have "gotten away" to Sybaris. The suites have hot tubs, pools, etc. and are geared toward adults. There is one in Frankfort and others, but I don't know where. They are a little pricey, but sometimes have specials. I want to go sometime! www.sybaris.com

Hi Lynn,
Have you ever been to Galena, IL? I can whole-heartedly recommend it as a great romantic getaway! It is only about three hours from the western Chicago 'burbs and a lovely drive. There are dozens of B&Bs to choose from, lots of good restaurants, tons of little shops, at least five golf courses (four of which are at Eagle Ridge Resort), trails to hike, historic buildings to tour, you name it. We have been going there twice a year for nearly six years and love it. Eagle Ridge Resort is very nice and has a great spa and pool, or if you want a romantic and historic B&B, the Victorian Mansion in town is my favorite. I have sent several friends there and they all come back raving about it. Check out www.galena.org - it has all the info and links you'd need. Have a great time wherever you go, and happy anniversary!
