Romantic Evening?

Hi everyone,
My husband has been really sweet lately, and has been a big help around the house. We just finished building our house this fall--he built most of it himself--and since we moved in, he has spent nearly every weekend doing little things to finish up, like hanging pictures, putting up shelves, etc. I know he would rather be relaxing, but he does all this without complaining. I want to do something to show him how much I appreciate him. I was thinking I would like to do some sort of special date night, and maybe make him something, but I can't think of anything very exciting...do any of you ladies have ideas? Or would you like to share what you have done for your husbands/boyfriends in the past? We don't have a lot of money, so we can't do anything too elaborate.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

If you are looking to stay in the other girls have given you some great ideas. My husband and I try to come up with dates all the time because we are kind of poor and just get tired of doing the same thing. So we have done, just coffee and talked at a coffee house, got us out of the house though. I have also packed a picnic basket and told him where to drive. Which was up the canyon, and hung out there. We also have a portable DVD player so we watched a movie there. He has surprised me with ice skating. Which he got a kick out of because I am terrible, but I had fun laughing at all the teenagers. You could also take a dance class, like salsa and practice at a later date. You could do a ski lift run, go to the zoo, the gardens, any place to get you two together, but alone at the same time. Good Luck :)

J.,
Yes, I agree write something down for him.. I write notes to slip in my hubby's lunch and add on to a poem I write him each anniversary. It makes you both feel close and romantic. Going to just list a few ideas...
-the dinners a great idea as well
-go camping just the two of you (if the weathers willing where you live)
-Get some foot massage scrub (grr can't remember what the word for it is), and some other simmilar products (bath salts candles) give him a full body replenish / rub. You can buy these things for cheap in singles at walmart..
-do something that he loves to do (fishing, sports, ?,) and bring along a nice picnic basket and blanket find a romantic spot for you and him to enjoy it.
Hmm.. That's all the ideas I can think of for now. Good luck and best wishes in finding the perfect thing for you both :)

You could make him breakfast in bed. You could give him little coupons for a back rub or such that he can redeem when he wants. You could make a special dinner like you suggested of something that he likes - steak & potatoes, shrimp pasta, chicken & veggies, or something. Set the table nicely, have candles lite, soothing music playing. Could you get a babysitter for the kids? Maybe cuddle up on the couch and watch a movie together, or my hubby and I would always slow dance in the living room after dinner by the candle light, that was always fun. Good luck and what a great husband. Also just complimenting him often and telling him how much you appreciate him.

I love this kind of stuff. Your post reminds me that I haven't done anything like that for my hubby lately and I should. So, if you're creative at all, you could try something like this: For Christmas on year, I did the "twelve days of Christmas" for him and got him a little gift (cheap as possible) that went along with some kind of saying. For example, the most expensive gift of the twelve was a bottle of Calvin Klein's "Eternity" colonge (maybe $10-it was a tiny bottle) and the note with that said that I will love him for eternity. One of them was a little pack of glow in the dark star stickers. The saying was that he was the reason for the stars in my eyes. Yes, I know. It all sounds cheesy. But it worked really well for my husband because he's kind of goofy anyway. The point is, think about his personality and try to come up with something that will make him smile and feel special. You could do something similar with food if you're wanting to make a meal. Do some reasearch online about foods that are connected with certain words or emotions like love, marriage, devotion, appreciation, thanks, etc. Then make him a buffet of "love foods" for him to enjoy. Have a little card or sign in front of each dish stating what it means. It doesn't matter if what you find out is true, just that you get the ideas from somewhere and he knows that you put the time into making it special for him. Good luck with it. Sounds like a lot of fun! I'm sure whatever you do, he'll love it.

I'd say put your thoughts and feelings in writing, like a loving thank you note. You can tell him how grateful you are to have a hard working, caring spouse. A letter or card is something he can keep forever to remind him of this special time in your marriage (new home, young kids). Take him to a favorite restaurant (it doesn't have to be expensive) and give it to him. Written sentiments are rare in this internet age; that in itself makes it romantic!

I suprised my husband not too long ago with an outfit (nighty outfit) of the sort I would NEVER wear. And then I concentrated on him...if you get me...it was all about him. It doesn't sound so romantic, but for a guy, that's a great gift! He was more than thrilled...and suprised, suprised, suprised!
