Rolling on Stomach Advice

My 6 month old son is rolling onto his stomach constantly, but he will get mad because he HATES to be on his tummy. I am trying to teach him to roll back onto his back, but he cannot get the hang of it yet.

During nap time when in his crib, he keeps rolling onto his stomach and will yell out wanting to be back on his back. I monitor him and try to hold back in hopes that he will roll back over on his own, but he just won't. On Sunday he was soooo tired but kept rolling onto his stomach and would not stop crying because he wanted to be rolled over - I was in his room 10 times within 15 minutes turning him back on his back! It got to the point that I had to cushion him between two pillows (on his lower torso; NOT by his head) so it would prevent him from being able to roll over. This worked and he was sleeping within 30 seconds!

I know he is okay on his stomach because twice in the middle of the night I noticed he has rolled onto his stomach and is sleeping comfortably. However, it is during play time and especially nap time that he just makes it so difficult for himself.

Any advice? Has this happened to you?

What can I do next?

My son went through the same thing....it was a phase that passed, thank goodness. He just needed a few weeks to figure it out. Our big problem was that it disturbed his night time and nap sleeping - rolling on to his tummy would wake him up and make him mad! We always let him cry for a bit to see if he could sleep through it but usually ended up rolling him over. It was a tiring couple of weeks but he figured it out quickly - either got used to sleeping on his belly or learned how to get back to where he wanted. There's little you can do about this one!

He will learn how to roll back onto his back soon enogh if you give him time to learn. But going in 10 times in 15 minutes isnt giving him any time to figure it out. Leave him alone and he will either figure it out or fall asleep trying. He just needs time. A couple weeks probably and youll wonder what you were worried about. Let him struggle and he will develop the muscles to turn over. (o:

I would say your best course is to teach him when he isn't trying to sleep. I don't know about you but I am very against anyone trying to get me to learn new tricks when I only want to sleep. Makes me crabby! :p

Put him on his stomach during play time, lay on the side he seems to be making the most progress at almost flipping back and then talk and play with him. Hopefully he will try to reach out to you to interact then just pull a little on his hand and he will be over. Soon enough he will realize he doesn't need that last pull.
